Structurally, this kind of horror film is no different to pornography - the plot is only there as a framework in which to hang the set-piece violent bits. A review of just the film. This has been released on DVD in the UK, but only in a heavily cut form. A video nasty from 1980, Anthropophagus (released in this country as 'Anthropophagous The Beast' during the early 80s home video boom, and as 'The Grim Reaper' in America) is the work of director Joe D'Amato. Italian exploitation in the 70s and 80s wasn't exactly known for being classy - this is the cinema sub-culture that gave us Cannibal Holocaust and Gestapo's Last Orgy - but even in that context, D'Amato was a grotty director.
