Advantages: Enjoyable, Good Acting, Interesting
Disadvantages: Rushed towards the end
AntiTrust is the new sci-fi/thriller from director Peter Howitt. It is the fictional but somehow realistic story of big time computer company boss Gary Winston played by Tim Robbins and the ruthless steps he will take to remain on top of his game. Milo Hoffman played by Ryan Phillippe is a young hotshot University graduate Computer Programmer who is fortunate enough to land a job with super company NURV (Never Underestimate Radical Vision) within the elite squad of programmers working closely with the company C.E.O. Gary Winston on a radical new application. All starts off well but as the movie progresses the more sinister side of NURV and indeed Gary Winston reveals it's self as we soon learn how NURV deals with problems and competition. Now this is a pretty decent movie and the acting is pretty good throughout. Ryan Phillippe is convincing and has a good screen presence. Claire Forlani is beautiful and captivating as Alice Poulson Milos girlfriend. Tim Robbins is as good as ever and really adds something to make this movie very enjoyable and entertaining. I think for people involved within the IT industry this movie may seem a little more interesting, some of it is quite farcical but some of the other issues raised are quite feasible and should not be overlooked. The movie moves along at a fair old pace and gradually unfolds to a dramatic climax. However if I had to nit-pick I would say the end is a little rushed, but after nearly two hours it is probably best. However this movie is not original and at several points during it's two hours had me comparing it to other movies such as Enemy of the State and John Grishams the Firm. It also has several blatant pokes at Microsoft, but this is quite humorous. I think I even heard Bill Gates mentioned once too! It's not going to be a blockbuster, but it's certainly worth watching but I don't feel it will be making it's way into my DVD collection.
