The true life story of the flight of Apollo 13 to the moon back in April 1970. This was the third manned mission to the moon by the Apollo programme, and came less than a year after the original first landing in Apollo 11 in July 1969. There's really no danger of giving away too much of the plot of this amazing movie, which was released in 1995, as I doubt there are many people on the planet who don't already know it had a "happy" ending. The flight goes drastically wrong when an oxygen tank explodes two days into the flight, resulting in a drastic (if not quite fatal) loss of oxygen and electrical power in the spacecraft. This forces the crew to ... Read the complete review

I remember watching Apollo 13 when it first came out at the cinema in 1995. Base on the real events of the unsuccessful moon mission in 1970, it would have been possible to hear a pin drop as the entire audience watched as the events unfolded - and this was even when we knew what happened. For the purpose of this review I am going to assume that most people know the story of Apollo 13 - if you don't and you are likely to watch the film it's probably best to skip this synopsis! The film is based on the Apollo 13 mission which was intended to be the third moon landing by US astronauts. The mission was led by Commander Jim Lovell (played by Tom hanks) ... Due to the obvious ‘giving the story away’ scenario, I shall try not to give anything too major away. However, it was a major event in 1970 and like the Titanic, many people already know the story. Storyline --------- Many people know the basic story to the Apollo 13 mission. The film intends to add more detail to this basic knowledge. There is only ever one storyline in this film which adds a great deal to the tension you will experience while watching it. To the people who know about the Apollo missions, they will notice some flaws due to the scriptwriters bringing the story down to an easy to understand level. Acting ... Read the complete review

Ok so you hear ‘Apollo 13’ and you think boring space flick, but in truth it’s much more than that. It’s a film full of emotion and drama especially for those who were alive at the time but for younger generations too because of the quality of the film. It follows the voyage of Apollo 13 and it’s ill-fated mission. Most people know (if not from knowledge but from the other opinions) that it was meant to land on the moon, however there were some major problems and it actually became one of the centuries greatest rescue stories, they had to get the astronauts back to Earth alive. Already a dramatic event in itself the film really portrays ... Read the complete review

This film is a great story and the strange thing is, IT REALLY HAPPENED!!! What was about to become America's darkest hour in space became a "successful Failure" when 3 American Apollo astronauts battle back to earth in their damaged spacecraft. This film directed by one time Happy Days star, Ron Howard, is a brilliant recollection of the 70's space programme in the USA. It shows thet real story behind the glitz and glamour of ticker tape parades and parties with budget cuts, missions being slashed and the very lax attitude towards what had become a very routine operation. Tom Hanks plays the commander Jim Lovell. A veteran of 2 previous missions with ... Read the complete review
