Advantages: Easy going spy drama

Disadvantages: None

I have just watched one of the most entertaining and enthralling films that I have enjoyed for many a year. Although I have seen Arabesque many times the director Stanley Donen lead me gently by the hand through a tale with more twists and turns than a tangled ball of wool. The spy drama with more than a hint of humour about it starred Sophia Loren to provide not just the glamour but to also play an integral part in the story.

Playing opposite the Italian star, Gregory Peck still with his trade mark puzzled look, was the innocent bystander who gets tangled up in a spy plot involving an Arab potentate.

This film had just about every imaginable scenario expected of a spy story of the sixties with just one tiny morsel of romance thrown in but not the "in your face" kind.

It is an expertly crafted film with the obligatory race against time to save ....... bit and a finalé of a chase through corn fields by agricultural machinery and a chase of our heroes on horseback by a helicopter.

This was a film with a Hitchcock feel about it where you could sit back and be entertained and I don't even remember the adverts being shown every half hour.

I'd heard of this film but never seen it. I happened to flick over on the TV the other afternoon to find it just starting - what a good film. Why don't we have stars like that anymore. I love Sophia! And Audrey Hepburn (she's not in this but deserves a mention!) Thanks for pointing this film out.
