Arachnophobia is another of those daft little films from the early 90s that is nevertheless fun to watch every so often. In the same vein as things like Tremors, Gremlins and Critters, it's a combination of horror-comedy, although with the emphasis more firmly on the fun element than the scares. The story sees a deadly spider accidentally brought back to a small American town, where it starts to kill some of the locals, causing a major threat to the town's population. Only the town's (naturally arachnophobia) doctor and a slightly strange bug exterminator stand in the way of eight-legged Armageddon. And that's it; that's yer plot. After that, it's ... Directed by Frank Marshall and co produced by Steven Spielberg, Arachnophobia stars Jeff Daniels, Harley Jane Kozak, John Goodman, and Julian Sands. I hate spiders, so how I ended up watching this film I'll never know, but despite a number of problems it actually was a pretty entertaining movie. Within a deep gorge in Venezuelan, a team of researchers (who are searching for new species,) come across a new breed of spiders. Through a series of events one of these spiders is accidentally transported to a small US town where it makes itself at home in a barn, and starts a 'family' with another local spider After a couple of spider caused deaths, ... I am one of the biggest animal lovers on this planet. I love them all, I don’t kill anything, not even insects. There is just one exception to the first rule though. I hate (with a passion) spiders. The second rule still stands though, I don’t kill them if at all possible (that’s the beauty of having a dad around, he puts them outside for me and my mum!) I realise having a phobia of something so small (well, they are in this country!) is stupid. I mean what can a harmless spider do to me exactly? It’s a completely irrational fear. If we had dangerous spiders in the UK then I guess the fear would make more sense but the humble garden spider ... Read the complete review

Arachnophobia is a movie that was released in the UK in 1991, and was directed by Frank Marshall, and co-produced by Steven Spielberg. The movie, based on spiders, hence the title, stars among others, Jeff Daniels, Harley Jane Kozak and John Goodman. A new species of deadly spider is accidentaly transported to a small American town, from a research expedition in Venezuela, and mates with a local spider. The result is that hundreds of new deadly spiders are released on the town, causing death and havoc. Dr Ross Jennings (Jeff Daniels), a new doctor in town, and with a fear of spiders, is one of the first to realise the fact that the recent rising death toll ... Read the complete review

I've always had a bit of a fear of spiders, not a full blown 'jump on the stool and scream like a banshee' fear, but I've never been very comfortable around things with more than four legs. So you'd think an entire film dedicated to the multi-limbed atrocities would be last thing on my review list, but what can I say, I've always been a glutton for punishment. Arachnophobia takes place in a quaint little town called Canaima, which has just become host to a highly venomous species of spider, straight from the sweltering jungles of the Amazon. Our hairy little hitchhiker wastes no time getting jiggy with the local house spiders, and as a result creates a new ... Read the complete review
