Are You Afraid of the Dark was the highlight of my week back in the day and I was delighted to see it had been released on DVD. A lot of excellent children's shows don't make it to home release, particularly those made before we regularly blitzed children with manipulative advertising and tie-in merchandise. Thankfully, this excellent children's series has survived. The show depicts a group of teens, "The Midnight Society," meeting in the woods at night to tell scary stories. Are You Afraid Of The Dark, was a children's horror/sci-fi series in the nineties. The stories were often based on urban legends, mythology, or short stores. The program evolved around a group of children who have formed a secret society and who gather around a camp fire late at night telling ghost stories. As expected with a children's program, Are You Afraid Of The Dark was never gory or actually that frightening, but what it lacked there it made up with good story telling, good acting, and enjoyable plot twists.
