Advantages: Better music than Ashes to Ashes.

Disadvantages: Not as many gags as Life on Mars.

Following on from the success of Life on Mars comes the 80's themed spin-off Ashes to Ashes.

Ashes to Ashes tells the tale of how Alex Drake (Keeley Hawes) travels back in time after being shot in the head in the present day. Drake wakes up in 1982 where she encounters Gene Hunt (Philip Glenister) the tough talking Gov who was a popular favourite in Life on Mars. Whilst Alex's body battles the wounds, Alex's mind is trapped in 1982 attempting to figure out a way of getting back to the present and to her daughter Molly.

With an amazing 80's soundtrack and some more classic one liners courtesy of Gene Hunt, Ashes to Ashes is a worthy spin-off to Life on Mars. After the end of such an iconic series in Life On Mars I thought there was nowhere else to go and yet I was proved wrong.

Stunning cast. Great storylines. I'd definately rent or buy the boxset.

Summary: Rent or buy the boxset if you didn't catch it first time round.
