Asylum is a 1972 British portmanteau horror film directed by Roy Ward Baker and produced by cult horror studio Amicus. The screenplay was written by Psycho author Robert Bloch and Asylum is much in the vein of other Amicus compendiums like Vault of Horror and Tales from The Crypt - good fun with a host of familiar faces. The film features four stories, all linked by a framing device set in 'Dunsmoor Asylum' for the 'incurably insane' and begins with young Dr Martin (Robert Powell) arriving at the bleak country asylum in his seventies sports car for a job interview. Asylum is a portmanteau horror film made by British studio Amicus. There are several of these horror compendiums, one I've reviewed before - The Vault of Horror. Jesus, AKA Robert Powell, a new doctor applies for a job at an old asylum. The asylum is run by the strange Dr Lionel Rutherford (Patrick Magee). He challenges Powell to interview some of the inmates, and if Powell can identify the right inmate as a mentally ill doctor, then Magee will give him the job.
