Advantages: Funny
Disadvantages: Some jokes don't work
The movie starts with Austin (Mike Myers) arresting Mini Me (Verne J. Troyer ) and Dr Evil (Mike Myers)for planning to use a tractor beam to make a giant gold meteor crash into earth. He has joined up with Dutch roller skater Goldmember (Mike Myers) so named because of a smelting accident. He loves gold and peeling his skin off which he either keeps in a little box or eats. Austin thinks he has saved the day and his knighted by the queen. However his father (Michael Caine) wasn't at the ceremony and Austin discovers that he has been kidnapped by Goldmember who is now hiding in 1975. Austin gets into his time travelling pimpmobile and goes to studio 64 where Goldmember and his father are. Here he meets Foxxy Cleopatra (Beyoncé Knowles) who is working undercover to get revenge on Goldmember because he killed her partner. Unfortunately Goldmember gets away with Austin's dad and goes back to 2002. To make things worse Dr Evil and Mini Me also escape from prison and retreat to their submarine lair. Austin finds out about Dr Evil and Goldmember's plan but is also a bit stuck because they are holding his dad as insurance. Foxxy and Austin now must get to the bottom of Dr Evil's plan before it's too late, with the help of a new friend. This film has got some bad reviews and is said to be the downfall of the once brilliant Austin Powers films, however although it is not the best, it is not a very funny film. The plot is really the plot of the other two, Dr Evil wants to destroy the world and is holding the world ransom and Austin and his latest tight clothed sidekick have to stop him. A lot of the jokes are familiar but most of the time work well. For example when Austin goes behind a screen and you can only see his shadow or the very suggestive names of the Japanese twins is very reminiscent of Ivana Humpalot from the second Austin Powers. The beginning is also Austin dancing around the streets 70's style. One of the most funniest
elements is the celebrity cameos, most of them in the first 5 minutes, but I won't spoil it by telling you who appears. Or when we get to see Austin and Dr Evil as teenagers. There are a lot of the same old characters, Austin is basically the same, and is still funny, Dr Evil who think is funnier than Austin is his same stupid self, Mini Me steals the show a lot in this film and also manages to get some sympathy. Fat Bastard is also present but was more disgusting that funny, apart from his last appearance. Also Number two (Robert Wagner) and Frau Farbissina (Mindy Sterling) are back but don't really do much. Scott Evil (Seth Green) also returns and is actually evil this time which works although it is different to his sulky ways in the other two films it still works and he still really hates Mini Me. The new characters are also good, Foxxy Cleopatra doesn't so much but acts as if she is straight out of a blaxpotation flick, Beyoncé Knowles is surprisingly good as her. Goldmember is not a funny as Doctor Evil but still is quite good and funny. The best new character has to be Nigel Powers, he is funny and get some killer lines, he tells Austin the two things he can't hate are people who aren't tolerant of other cultures and The Dutch. All the performances are all good. The film itself is funny but some of the jokes do fall flat and aren't funny but the other jokes make up for it. Like the other two this film is very colourful and bright and full of energy which makes it very enjoyable to watch. I would recommend it to fans of the Austin Powers films but those who didn't like the other two would be better of staying away.
