Advantages: Funny parts
Disadvantages: Storyline
With nothing else to do on Saturday night, I ended up going to see the good old Austin Powers flik, was I impressed? Not really. Did I expect to be impressed? Not really! There ya go! The film started brilliantly, very funny! We had Tom Cruise as Austin Powers and many other well known actors and actresses representing other roles. This was the introduction to the third edition of Austin Powers. These people, Tom Cruise etc have been hired to make a film on Austin Powers so in the film I was watching - Goldmember they are making a film on Austin Powers called Pussy*** . Sound confusing?! Well it isn't as bad as it sounds! ALSO this is not the main plot! They simply used this as an intro tothe movie and also an ending. Well after watching a brilliant start, I started to get my hopes up for the film, maybe it wasn't going to be all that bad, was I wrong? YES. The film was ok, it had funny moments but the dire storyline and repeating from the previous Austin Powers 1+2 was a little annoying. For anyone who doesen't know, Austin Powers is a British spy who likes women. Austin's enemy, Dr.EVIL always has EVIL plans which Austin has to end up solving since he is a spy. Austin has cracked two of Dr.EVILs previous plans and now he is onto his third. It isn't necessary to watch the first two films before this one but you may prefer to if you wish. As like the previous two Austin Powers the main star 'Mike Myers' plays many characters: MIKE MYERS =========== Austin Powers: The main star, the goodie who cracks jokes. Some of which are funny, some of which aren't so funny! Myers does well with Austin but to be honest with 3 movies now, there was hardly anything different Myers could develop with Austin Powers. Dr Evil: Personally, I can't tell Dr.Evil is Myers, his disguise is brilliant and as for his character, he is pretty good with that too! Playing a goodie and a
baddie in one film must be hard, but 3 films later Myers has definitely put his task to perfection. Fat Bastard: Yes, he is back! If you have seen previous Austin Powers movies you will know who Fat Basterd is, if now I gather you can guess he is pretty much just a FAT guy! Myers does well with Fat Basterd but he doesen't really have that much of a hard role. Dutch baddie - Goldmember: Myers has a new character in this third sequel. Quite an important role too. Goldmember makes quite a few appearances but doesen't have much of a strong character, if a new actor played this role maybe the character would have been stronger and put more to perfection but Myers did cope well with Goldmember. Thats Mike Myers, 4 characters! All played with a satisfactory performance too which is pretty good! OTHER CHARACTERS / ACTORS ========================== Nigel Powers (Austins DaD): Nigel is a new character to the movie sequels, he is a main part to the storyline. Michael Caine acts well with this part, he suits Austin Dad and does well. He makes a good impact on the film and I enjoyed watching him. Foxxy Cleopatra: Also a new member to the Austin Powers squad! Austin seems to have lost previous fellow girl spy, 'Miss Shagwell' and has found himself a new woman, 'Foxxy Cleopatra'. She is pretty good in the film but nothing special. Beyonce Knowles from singing group, 'Destiny's Child' plays the part. This is her first main movie and she has done quite well although her part wasn't really anything big enough for her to focus hard on. Scott Evil: As from the previous 2 movies, Seth Green plays Scott Evil, Dr.Evil's son. This time his character has changed a little so Seth has had to play around with his character, he has done well but doesen't really have a major input to the movie. Mini-Me: Little Mini-Me the clone of Dr.Evil is played brilliantly as always by
Verne Troyer. He is funny and brings most of the humour to the movie. He does well, probably because his character is basically the same. Michael York also appears on the screens as part of Dr.Evils side, he is named, 'Number2' Heather Graham also makes an appearance. STORYLINE ========= The main storyline begins when Austin Power's solves yet another one of Dr.Evils cunning plans and the result is Dr.Evil and his clone, Mini-Me being sent to jail. However, being behind bars does not stop Dr.Evil. Soon Nigel Powers (Austins Dad) has been kidnapped and Austin realises Dr.Evil is behind it. As like always chronology is confusing in these movies, soon Austin is on his way to 1975 where he bumps into Goldmember. Austin soon realises this man is a villain and probably a friend of Dr.Evils. Hence the name, Goldmember this man is in love with gold and has certain parts of his body in gold! Whilst bumping into Goldmember, Austin also bumps into a fellow acquaintance from the past, Foxxy Cleopatra. He soon realises that she is working undercover at Goldmembers club. As you can probably guess with Austin and his women, the two become re-acquainted and are soon teamed up in a partnership. The storyline continues as the partnership follows the villains to Japan and another plan is ready to be solved by Austin Powers! Alongside the main plot, we learn about Austins releationship with his father. We also see Scott Evil who tries to be nice, attempting to become evil for his father. The storyline isn'y anything special at all, just like the 2 previous films. Without the humour this film would be nothing! CONCLUSION =========== As you would expect, there are funny moments in this film, some silly and stupid and some just NOT funny but this film would be nothing without the funny parts as I mentioned above. Some of the acting is done well, some not so good but nothing much could have bee
n improved to make this film any better, it is what it is and it always was going to be like it is! (If that makes sense!?) This film is popular, the showing I wanted to see was sold out! The rating is 12 and if you're interested, go take a look, you might be satisfied. I wasn't totally dis-satisfied because I exprected what I got, cheers for reading.
