Advantages: funny, lots of famous people in it!
Disadvantages: some crude humour so isn’t suitable for younger children
Before the third Austin Powers was released there was a big ‘to do’ about the name. They won though and ended up with “Austin Powers; Goldmember”. The film starts with Tom Cruise playing Austin Powers, they are making an Austin Powers film too! Danny Devito is Mini-Me but this is just a brief show and the film starts shortly afterwards. Dr Evil and Mini-Me have caught and are put into a maximum security prison. After a remix of Hard Knock Life sung by Dr Evil and Mini-Me (hilarious part of the film) they escape and get together with Goldmember, named because his ‘bits’ are made of gold. Dr evil does a bit of time travelling and captures Austin’s Dad, Nigel. Austin chases them through time and meets up with an old girlfriend (some time in the past!), Foxy Cleopatra, played by Beyonce Knowles. She is to help Austin save his father. You would think that the story is wearing a bit thin now with Austin Powers but I have to say that I enjoyed the third one more than the second. The jokes are all much the same but I still think they are funny. The humour is very in your face and is quite crude at times so this film wouldn’t be suitable for younger kids. Mike Myers is back again and plays the majority of the cast, Austin Powers, Dr. Evil, Goldmember and Fat Bas***d. He is brilliant in all of his roles and they always manage to make him look completely different in every outfit! Beyonce Knowles is a very good Foxy Cleopatra, she is funny and if this is a sign of her acting I think we will be seeing her in a few more films! Verne Troyer is Mini Me (again) and he is sooooooooooo cute!! Especially in that little blue velvet suit like Austin’s!! The Hard Knock Life song which Mini-Me and Dr. Evil sing is worth watching this film for alone, it is hilarious. Seth Green is Scott Evil (Dr. Evil’s son) again and he’s getting more like his dad every day!! Apart from
the usual cast there are loads of special guest stars!! These all have about five minutes in the film and include Ozzy Ozbourne and Britney Spears as well as Tom Cruise, Gwyneth Paltrow and Danny Devito already mentioned. The soundtrack fits in with the film well, there are songs from Beyonce, Rolling Stones, Britney and even Paul Okenfold! The soundtrack is good because as well as known songs there are also the ones that are made especially for the film. If you go and buy this soundtrack you will know at least half of the songs already! This is definitely a film to go and see in a big group, it’s funny all the way through and guaranteed to have you laughing lots! There are old jokes in the film but there are a few new ones as well. If you are an Austin Powers fan don’t miss this one and if you are not a fan, go and see it anyway!
