Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery What’s it about? --------------------- Frozen since the 60s, British super spy Austin Powers is unfrozen in the 90s to do battle once more with his nemesis Dr Evil. Who’s in it? --------------- This is, in many ways, Mike Myers’ film. As well as writing it, he plays both Austin Powers and Dr Evil. Although recognisably him in both disguises, he clearly is having a lot of fun and makes both parts sufficiently different to make them enjoyable. Dr Evil is all bumbling incompetence, whilst Austin Powers is a confident, strutting ... Read the complete review

This film was fantastic and so funny I hardly know where to start. Here goes… First impressions can be deceptive, when I saw the opening sequence of Austin Powers dancing in the street, I thought "what on earth is this all about?" and I was seriously worried as to whether the film would be any good or not, I even thought "if it's really bad I can always leave!" However, having seen the film three times now, I can vouch that it is excellent! After the opening sequence the film soon went into a brilliantly funny, never ending cascade of jokes. I laughed the whole way through the film, it was one joke after another and they all ... Read the complete review

I remember when I first watched Austin Powers - I had my bet mate over and a girl, and my mate and I laughed and laughed whilst the girl sat silently; this is a boy's film! Austin Powers is a comedy starring Mike Myers as a cool spy brought back from the 1960s into the 90s to take down Dr Evil, the bad guy! The film is a spoof of other spy films, and there are numerous references to Bond et al which you will enjoy more the more you know about the genre. Certain ideas such as gadgets are joked at, and even characters from Bond pop up (Random Task). The set is great - lots of funky 60s fun, and the music adds a sense of psychadelic fun to ... Yeah Baby The International Man of Mystery has arrived. Austin Powers is alive and well and not living in the 60's anymore, not that he would be aware of that though. The Austin Powers movies are action comedy films which spoof themes and genres like James Bond. Austin Powers is a secret agent and in his day he was the sexiest, funniest man around but things are different in the 90's. What makes these films really funny in my opinion is that they make fun of the James Bond type secret agent, the suave, sophisticated male as Austin has really bad teeth and dress sense. He also makes extremely sexist comments to the females around him which was ... Read the complete review

note: also appears in part on Flixster and The Student Room Austin Powers is a rousing spoof that was successful enough to have two sequels released, although this is the best of the bunch. The film spoofs the spy genre, particularly James Bond, making a mockery of the silliness of those films whilst also taking pot shots at the anachronism of the 1960s when compared with the present day. The film opens in 1967 as International Superspy Austin Powers and his nemesis Dr. Evil (both Mike Myers) have been attempting to do away with one another for years. When Dr. Evil hatches a plan to kill Austin at a nightclub, Austin foils his plan, causing Dr. Evil ... Read the complete review
