Advantages: funny
Disadvantages: rude
I remember when I first watched Austin Powers - I had my bet mate over and a girl, and my mate and I laughed and laughed whilst the girl sat silently; this is a boy's film!
Austin Powers is a comedy starring Mike Myers as a cool spy brought back from the 1960s into the 90s to take down Dr Evil, the bad guy!
The film is a spoof of other spy films, and there are numerous references to Bond et al which you will enjoy more the more you know about the genre. Certain ideas such as gadgets are joked at, and even characters from Bond pop up (Random Task).
The set is great - lots of funky 60s fun, and the music adds a sense of psychadelic fun to the whole thing too.
The acting is basic, but it doesn't need to be anything else. Of particular note, Myers does a great job as both Powers and Evil, and he really has moved up a notch since Waynes World. The wigs and outfits ae outrageous and silly, and I loved that!
The comedy is great, a mix of slapstick silliness and sexual innuendo. Only occasionally is there content that is a bit too rude for young teens, but all in all I wouldn't let my kids watch it until they were mid-teen.
At 94 minutes it's the perfect length comedy - not too long but not too short either.
All in all, a brilliant fun and original comedy!
