Another mindless comedy today, I guess I'm just not in the mood for giving films too much thought lately. Baby Mama is one I for sure wasn't about to waste over a fiver to see on the big screen, and if I'm honest was a little further down my to-watch list. It tells the story of high-flying career woman Kate Holbrook who is desperate to have children but has two problems. Firstly, she hasn't found the right man to settle down with and, secondly, she has a T-shaped uterus which her doctor "just doesn't like". After several unsuccessful treatments, she finally ends up at the door of Chaffee Bicknell's surrogate agency, a woman who, despite ... Read the complete review

At 37 years old, Kate is the youngest VP in her company. With an amazing apartment and a killer wardrobe of power suits, she has everything except...a baby. It's not good - she's started sniffing random babies' heads in lifts and hallucinating the nappy brigade in her business meetings. When Mother Nature screws her over with a T-shaped uterus she takes a less traditional route to motherhood and enlists the help of a surrogate mother, Angie. Sure, it may be unconventional, but if you look at it in business terms, it's just like outsourcing your pregnancy, and outsourcing's all the rage, right? I chose to download Babymama after reading some press about it and ... Read the complete review

With the increased pressure on women to both work and have a family they may decide that they need to sacrifice to make their lives work. Some may choose to limit their career and start a family, whilst others with forgo children for work ambition. In some cases this does happen, but I still believe that a woman can have both. My Mum worked and brought up four children and I never felt neglected or hard done by in any way. This reasonable balance may not be the most exciting thing to bring to the big screen, but a woman reaching her late 30s only to realise she is infertile is no laughing matter either. That is unless you are Tina Fey and you decide to write a ... Read the complete review

Tina Fey is a very talented woman; there's no doubt about that, from her work on Saturday Night Live, to her very successful TV show 30 Rock. She also wrote Mean Girls, which transformed the chick flick into something that even guys who enjoy action films as their primary cinematic outing can take a liking to. Kate Holbrook (Tina Fey) is a successful businesswoman who lives in Philadelphia, and has always put her career first, but feeling quite accomplished, she decides to have a child by herself. She cannot, though, as she has a hostile womb, and thus decides to enlist the help of Angie Ostrowiski (Amy Poehler) as a surrogate mother, but she is childish and ... Read the complete review

As well as loving chick-lit, I also love my chick-flicks. It's nice to sit down in the evening after a long day with Harry and watch something that doesn't tax my brain too much and that is fairly easy to watch. I was browsing the DVD selection at the library, and this film stood out to me on the shelf. It sounded like a really funny comedy and had one of my favourite actresses, Maura Tierney from ER in it so I thought it would be worth a watch. Before I watched it, I had a little look on here to see how it done with other reviewers and it seemed positive, so I was all set to enjoy. How disappointed was I just 99 minutes later. Kate has always worked hard to ... Read the complete review
