The first Back to the Future film opened to wide acclaim and is largely considered a classic of the adventure and science fiction genres. The sequel, whilst perhaps not quite reaching those dizzying heights, is still a great film on its own merits. It continues where the original film left off, with "Doc" Emmet Brown (Christopher Lloyd) returning and declaring to Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and his girlfriend Jennifer (who has been recast as Elizabeth Shue for some reason) that they have to come with him to the future to prevent a fate where the entire McFly legacy is destroyed. If he cannot stop his son getting recruited into Griff Tannen (the grandson of Biff from the first film)'s gang, then McFly Jr. will wind up in prison and the whole McFly family will be disgraced.
What makes this such a hoot is that it retains the charm that the original had - all of the principal cast members return, and this time a lot of them come back in numerous roles, as their "present" and future selves. Most notable is Biff as a whining old man, still being the same irrepressible ass that he always has been. Of course, though, as with the first film, their time travel opens up a whole other can of worms, and when they accidentally let Biff get hold of a Sports Almanac, he uses it to make a fortune in betting, and builds his own dystopian empire. It's up to them to put it right before it's too late, and not only their lives, but those of their children and grandchildren, are changed for the worse forever.
A great sequel that is successful due to the chemistry between Fox and Lloyd. Fantastic.
Summary: Another winner from the gang

- 16/09/09 If Michael J. Fox arrived at my house in hysterics, in the 80s, trying to warn me about the future, I'd calmy reply;
"N o Michael, let me tell you about YOUR future..." |
