Advantages: A fitting end to an awesome trilogy.
Disadvantages: Not as original as the first two movies
Back to the Future part 3 is the third installment of the Back to the Future Trilogy and follows immediately on from the previous movie, this time set in the old west.
The Plot :
After lightning strikes the Clock tower and the end events of the previous movie unfold, Marty McFly ( Michael J Fox ) finds himself stuck in 1955 and once again needing the help of "Doc" Emmett Brown ( Christopher Lloyd )
He explains to the Doc that his future self and the DeLorean time machine were struck by lightning and accidentally sent back to the year 1885 , Marty learns this from a letter Doc Brown sends him from 1885 which is delivered at that precise moment in 1955, in the Letter Marty discovers that Doc has hidden the DeLorean in an old abandoned mine shaft, the letter instructs Marty to take the car and using his 1955 counterpart travel back to 1985 and destroy the Time Machine forever.
While retrieving the DeLorean Marty discovers a tombstone which leads him to learn that Doc Brown is shot and killed by Buford "Mad Dog" Tannen ( Thomas F Wilson ) merely seven days after writing the letter, ignoring the doc's instructions to return to 1955, Marty decides that he must save the Doc who had no idea that he would be killed days later, and he finds himself travelling back in time once again, this time to the Old West.
As I've stated before im a HUGE fan of the Back to the Future trilogy and think this movie is a fitting end to that great trilogy of movies, yes some of the plotlines are very similar to the previous two movies, and yes some of the Jokes are just rehashes of jokes from the previous movies, but I think thats the point, even though they find themselves in different stages of time, the situations are very similar and there is the irony, that no matter where they are in the past / present or future, events simply have a way of playing themselves out and you find yourself in a deja vu situation from time to time.
As with the previous movies Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd play their parts to perfection and I can't imagine anybody else in those roles.
Is this movie similar to the prequels in places ?? ... Yes, is there some predictability to this movie ?? yes, but its fun and wraps up the classic trilogy in the perfect way.
Summary: Has to be added to any collection.
