Another film which I was prompted to revisit after hearing it mentioned in "Hot Fuzz" was 2003 release Bad Boys II. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence reunite for the follow up to the 1995 buddy cop success Bad Boys (which I loved), and for good measure director Michael Bay and producer Jerry Bruckheimer are along for the brash action packed ride. Smith plays pampered trust fund Miami drugs cop Mike Lowrey, and Lawrence is his ever suffering partner, devoted but dramatic family man Marcus Burnett. In the first film, we saw them take on the bad guys and win. In this second film, they are recruited to a special task force with the purpose of stemming the ever ... Read the complete review

When I heard about the upcoming release of Bad Boys II I couldn’t help but be filled with a mixture of excitement and dread. As a massive fan of the first film the prospect of a worthy sequel was fantastic but at the same time there was the dread that, as with most sequels, it would be a disappointment. There were a couple of positive signs surrounding the sequel that lead me to be optimistic when watching it; Firstly there is a sizable gap between the first film and the sequel so it is not trying simply to build on the box office success of the first film. Secondly there is the fact that the cast has been maintained between the films. When you consider the success that ... Read the complete review

Bigger and badder would be a fair summing up of the vast majority of action movie sequels. In order to justify making a sequel, the special effects and set pieces have to be bigger and more impressive than those in the original film. Studio bosses are prepared to put more money into the films on the basis that the success of an initial film makes a sequel a banker. Excellent examples of this type of thinking that have hit the screens recently include Terminator 3 and The Matrix Reloaded. Both of these films also fall into the "Badder" category - in the sense that they are not as good as the originals. Indeed it is very rare for a sequel to live up to ... Read the complete review

Director: Michael Bay. Producer: Jerry Bruckheimer Writers: Ron Shelton, Jerry Stahl, Cormac Wibberley and Marianne Wibberley Stars: Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Jordi Mollá, Gabrielle Union, Peter Stormare, Theresa Randle and Joe Pantoliano. Released by Columbia pictures in the summer of 2003, eight years after the original action/ comedy movie, being nearly 2 and a half hours long. It is a known fact, (in my head anyway), that many well established movies, which when first released, managed to create a rather large fan base due to its shear entertainment value, will always try and spawn a sequel or two in the hope that it will be ... Bad Boys II was in evitable. The success of Bad Boys in 1995 prompted the combination of director Michael Bay and actors Will Smith and Martin Lawrence to reunite to make this sequel blockbuster. Many were unsure as to whether it would be a good idea to revisit a sucessful combination for fear of ruining it, but this worked very well, giving just enough difference from the first film for it to be a top film. The Plot Years on from the original film, Mike Lowry and Martin Lawrence are sent to Florida to stop the flow of a new designer ecstacy tablet into the country. They encounter hostility from the local drugs baron as well as the Russian Mafia and ... Read the complete review
