Advantages: good film, great action
Disadvantages: annoying female lead
A story of 2 black cops, who have the only witness to a murder (and link to a big pile of drugs) to protect. Due to various slightly contrived cirumstances, the cops have to pretend to be each other to keep the witness, and much amusement follows.
Will Smith plays the smooth-talking woman's man, Mike Lowrey - who has money through his family, and is a copy because it's all he ever wanted to be. (Sound a bit "Fresh Prince"?). His partner, Markus (Martin Lawrence) is a family-man, with 4 kids and a wife that are all that is important to him. The witness, played by Mrs David Duchovny, is just too annoying for you to feel too much sympathy with - when you're being chased by the bad guys and told to stay in the appartment, you just don't go out nightclubbing to the place you expect them to be!!
The film is full of nice little one-liners which Smith throws out with his normal perfect timing. And the rapport between the two stars is perfect.
The bad guy is of that genre of bad guys you find in films such as Die Hard - cold, ruthless, and foreign. Not quite in the same class as the Die Hard villains of old, though.
