Advantages: magical and enchanting for little girls (and big girls)
Disadvantages: none
My little 5 year old girl is a very big fan of Barbie this year and everytime something about her comes on TV she has her nose almost pinned against the screen, We walk into Woolworths and she is mesmerised by all the Barbie dolls and toys!
I saw this on special offer in Woolworths at the beginning of November for her birthday. I paid £14.99 for the DVD but the special offer was that if you paid the £14.99 for DVD you could purchase the Princess Annika Barbie doll for only £9.99 (usual price £19.99) Unfortunately this offer has ended so you will probably pay £19.99 for the doll again.
Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus is the newest DVD release starring Barbie herself as Princess Annika.
**The Story***
It's Princess Annika's 17th birthday, As usual she has sneaked out of her castle (against her mother and father, the king and queen's wishes) to go ice-skating. Ice-skating is her one passion in life. On this particular skating session she befriends a little baby polar bear, she calls Shiver.
Her father is very angry and forbids her to ever go skating again as he is very worried about her leaving the castle.
Of course she disobeys him again to her peril as she encounters the evil wizard Wenlock, who turns her family into stone and unless she marries him within 3 days they will remain that way forever.
Annika is rescued by a flying Pegasus horse called Brietta, who turns out to be her long lost sister who is under a spell of Wenlocks too.
She takes her to Queen Rayla in the Cloud Kingdom, who tells her she must defeat Wenlock to free her family, and to do this she needs to build a wand of light!
To build a wand of light you need courage, hope and love.
So Annika and Brietta begin their journey through the forbidden forest which is where they meet Aiden......
Now i don't want to give anymore of the story away, but this is truly a wonderful modern fairy tale for children to watch. There is lots of adventures which the characters find themselves caught up in, and my daughter absolutely loves this movie!
There are lots of special features on this DVD which really enhance it.
*In the box you are given 4 pairs of 3D glasses, This is because there is 2 versions of the movie on the DVD, first version is a 3D version in which The little polar bear, Shiver comes up in the left hand side of the screen telling you to either put on your 3D glasses or to remove them. The scenes which are 3D really do appear as if they are in 3D, ie the skating scene right at the beginning looks more realistic!
Or if you prefer not to watch in 3D (I found it hurt my eyes after a while) there is normal view.
*There is a game which your little girl can play too, called Grooming Brietta, this is a simple game which any little girl will love, you click on the tail styles and mane styles you want to give Brietta with your remote control. My little girl loves doing this almost as much as she wants to watch the movie.
*There is a music video of the theme tune called "Hope Has Wings" by Brie Larson, And again my little girl dances around the room like a little princess when she plays this.
*There is also trailer previews of other Barbie DVD's on this, including Barbie "Princess collection", Barbie "Fairytopia", Barbie " Fairytopia Mermaidia" and The Barbie Diaries.
*Also at the end of the main film there is a short bit that is supposed to be cuts out of the film....like Annika bursting into fits of giggles when she's not supposed to etc. My daughter thought these were funny!
The voice over of Annika in this movie was Kelly Sheridan.
The soundtrack is mainly classical type music played by an orchestra, which really suits the movie. But with the aforementioned music video as well.
This DVD is approximately 1 hour and 24 minutes long,
costs approx £14.99 but it does pay to shop around as we all know.
For what you get for this DVD though it is well worth the money.
Thanks for reading,
Any questions feel free to ask!
