Synopsis: Following the life of one Irish man through Ireland in the 18th Century. Barry Lyndon in my eyes remains, a long with Paths of Glory, as one of Kubrick's most under-rated works and yet to me one of his very best, just as fitting as Clockwork Orange and 2001: A Space Odyssey, Barry Lyndon inhabits and portrays the 18th century as well as the latter inhabit the future. Kubrick captures perfectly the atmosphere of this time, including the wonderful lifestyles, costumes, sets and locations that capture your imagination as you watch. In my opinion Barry Lyndon is Stanley Kubrick's most original masterpiece based on the novel by William is Makepeace Thackeray. Set during the years preceding the French Revolution, the film portrays the rise and fall of Irish traveller Barry Lyndon in a journey that takes him through the armies and high societies of 18th century Europe. Stanley Kubrick has cut his teeth in the early fifties and had honed his art making some great pictures. During the sixties and early seventies he made some ground breaking and in some cases controversial films. He had basically won his freedom and given by Warner Brother free rein to create pretty much any film me wanted. This brings me to this film, Kubrick had written a screen play for a film based on the life of Napoleon, but another film "Waterloo" has been released and ... Read the complete review

What's this? No dooyoo reviews of Barry Lyndon? Then allow me :) Stanley Kubrick had a remarkable ability to dive into any movie genre and create a masterpiece that, if not conquered, rose to the very top of the genre. A second characteristic of the genius filmmaker was how he never made the same film twice, as do so many of today's big names. Released in 1975, Barry Lyndon is almost impossibly different to Kubrick's other work, yet bears his signatures and stands as a fine achievement. As we came to expect of him, Kubrick took a considerable creative role in the film -- he wrote the screenplay (from a novel by nineteenth century author William ... Read the complete review
