Advantages: Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson, Tim Burton

Disadvantages: None

Back in 1989, when this film first hit cinemas, BATMAN was everywhere. The hype was huge, and it was certainly hard to avoid. Being 16 years old at the time I really bought into the hype - my favourite aspect of the whole thing (besides the film) was the excellent Prince soundtrack songs.

The film itself was not, and still is not, a disappoint. Michael Keaton plays Batman and his alter ego Bruce Wayne, and he brings a real sense of humanity to the role. Keaton was looked down upon by Batman fans before the film actually came out as he was known at this time for his more comedic roles, but he really is fantastic in the role in this film and its first sequel, BATMAN RETURNS.

Directed by Tim Burton this is a gothic tour de force. Jack Nicholson's Joker is, well, Jack Nicholson, but he does make an enjoyable Joker, although one very different to that played by the late Heath Ledger in the upcoming DARK KNIGHT movie.

Summary: Batman (1989)
