... in the Iraq War. On November 19, 2005, 24 Iraqis (including children) were killed in Haditha, an Iraqi province, and to make things worse, over half of them were purportedly civlians, and they were killed by members of the United States Marine Corps. The film recounts these events and tries to conclude whether there was any wrongdoing on the part of the marines. It's a rather impressive effort from Broomfield once again; he gets into the nitty gritty of the situation, going behind enemy lines to catch up with the sold...more

Premium Review Battle For Haditha (2 DVDs): Unbiased and well made doc (296 words)
by - written on 15/10/09 (Very useful, 4 readings)
Rating:

Controversial film critic Armond White declares that the two best films about the Iraq war are The Hurt Locker (recently released, and likely Oscar nominee), and Battle for Haditha. Haditha is directed by Nick Broomfield, a documentarian who has established quite a career, with his controversial doc Kurt and Courtney in particular, in which he claimed that perhaps Cobain was murdered. Premium Review A great docu-film by Film Four (248 words)

Rating:

This film reminds me a lot of Jarhead. I love this film and like Jarhead it follows some of the psychological sides of war. Basically this film follows some US marines or something as they are on patrol in Iraq. Made by Film Four, this film explores some of the psychological side when one of their own is killed by a road side bomb. They go OTT and start killing pretty much everybody in this little village. I have to say, having only watched it once, I was very impressed by a film made by Film Four. I like some of the action type scenes and I do like how it is based upon a true story. The actors aren't all that good and it does let this film down, but ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Battle For Haditha (2 DVDs): War Documentary / Drama and a good one at that (296 words)
by - written on 05/04/09 (Very useful, 35 readings)
Rating:

I don't really do war films and I haven't watched any of the current films based in Afghanistan or Iraq, expecting them to be stereotypes and propaganda one way or the other. So it was of some interest to me when I read a description of this film which said it was fairly balanced and showed the perspective from all sides. I think the description was fair, the director - UK based Nick Broomfield, does a good job of portraying the feelings and actions of the US soldiers, the Iraqi insurgents and the civilians who got caught up in it. Script wise this is a documentary about the Haditha scandal but you'd never be able to tell that as it flows smoothly with action, ...  Read the complete review
