However there plan works and people love the crazy little movies they are getting. So the story progresses from here and shows how they cope with the demand for making movies. This is a decent film but nothing really special. It's one of those films you can have on in the background and you don't need to pay to much attention to. Jack Black is not at his best for m...more

For my birthday, we went into the cinema to see Be Kind, Rewind; a film we had been waiting months for the release of. The trailers looked hilarious, and Jack Black always has me laughing, it was bound to be good! Was it as good as I imagined though? Plot Outline -------------- Mr Fletcher owns one of the last video rental stores on the estate, 'Be Kind Rewind'. Whilst he goes away for a few nights, he leaves Mike in charge, after providing him with strict but unclear orders to keep Jerry out. Jerry becomes magnetised and manages to get into the shop, somehow erasing all of the videos. In order to satisfy the customers, keep Mr ...  Read the complete review

Michel Gondry has delivered again! This is a charming, feelgood, funny movie. I saw this at the cinema and enjoyed every minute. Jack Black plays a junkyard worker who attempts to sabotage a power plant he suspects of causing his headaches. While doing so, he causes his brain to become magnetized, leading to wiping out the entire collection movies on VHS in his friend's store. In order to keep the store's custom, they take to recreating a long line of films including Rush Hour and Ghostbusters. They do this by using their term 'Sweding', as they claim the films come from Sweden to explain the longer wait and higher rental fee! Whereas they are actually ...  Read the complete review

When video store owner, Mr Fletcher, goes away for a few days, he leaves the store in the capable (or so he thinksP hands of his assistant, Mike, insisting before he goes that Mike does not let friend and junk yard owner Jerry anywhere near the store. Unfortunately, Mike doesn't understand the message and lets Jerry in. Meanwhile, Jerry has acquired the ability to magnetize everything that gets in his way, and all the videos in the store are wiped. Knowing that the business is already outdated and under threat by developers, Mike comes up with the idea of re-making the films, which become a surprise local hit. Will this enterprise save the video shop? Or will the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Be Kind Rewind (DVD) - Lacking in comedy? (709 words)

Be Kind Rewind, me and my girlfriend watched a trailer for it a few weeks back and decided to purchase this as it looked quite funny and original. A comedy starring Jack Black and Mos Def and a junkyard mechanic and a video rental assistant. The story revolves around the story of an old building about to be demolished and Black's idea of 'sabotaging' the local electricity plant, it becomes a problem when he becomes magnetised and ruins all the videos in the store...leaving the 2 of them just days and hours to recreate any video at request. The plot idea is pretty original, this is one of the main reasons we decided to purchase it, along with Jack Black being ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Be Kind Rewind (DVD): Cack handed waste of a great idea (354 words)

note: also appears in part on The Student Room If there's any film I ever wanted to enjoy, and sounded like a complete laugh riot, it's Be Kind Rewind. Quite how they ruined what could have been both a scathing satire and a loving ode to amateur filmmaking, I'm not sure, but by suffocating it with disingenuous sentiment, they've given me some idea. The film takes place in New Jersey, where Mr. Fletcher (Danny Glover)'s video rental store Be Kind Rewind is flailing, thanks to both the onset of DVD technology, and also the local chain rental stores such as Blockbuster eating up all the business. One day however, Mike (Mos Def) is left to run the ...  Read the complete review
