Rating:
This is a movie you can watch again and again and it will still be good. Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey star as CC Bloom, an actress and singer, and Hilary Whitney, a top-notch lawyer and mother. The movie starts off with CC singing Under the Boardwalk in a rehearsal in the hollywood bowl, when she gets a phone message and has to leave straight away for the airport. It then goes back to when the two best friends were 11 years old, CC having a fag under some steps on a beach, and Hilary is lost - she comes and sits down crying. CC's aunt Leona is rushing around looking for CC - she quickly stubs out the fag, and Leona shouts that they are ... Read the complete review

Does anyone else have a film which they watched when they were very young which stuck with them throughout adulthood. Well mine is this film Beaches, I think I was way too young to watch the film at the time, but I fell in love with it, it had me in tears and I loved every thing about it and still to this day, maybe 10 years later, I still adore this film as much as I did then. ------------ The Plot ------------- The film follows two young girls CC Bloom and Hilary Whitney, both from different sides of the spectrum, Hilary is from a rich family and CC is an out of work actress who has to deal with her mother who is annoying. The girls ... Read the complete review

This film is great. It is all about the friendship of two female best friends, who've known each other since they were young but have now broken off. They meet again, and go away from each other again many times, and the film has many twists and turns and has a very, very sad ending which you will be in tears at! This film is regularly repeated on ITV and is available to rent or buy on video very cheaply as it's quite old. ... Read the complete review

I first saw beaches when it came out on video and i think i have worn by tape out watching it since. It is a real weepy and if i need to have a good cry I always watch this film. It moves me every time at exactly the same place and although i know whats coming and when it always gets me. It also a film that really makes you think about life and your own life and what you make of it. I would give this a definite thumbs up, not only woudl i recommend it to a friend i'd buy a big bucket of popcorn, some icecream and a box of tissues to watch it with them. ... 1988 seemed to be a good year for great movies and Beaches is no exception. Beaches, based on a novel of the same name by Iris Rainer Dart, which I have yet to read, tells the story of two little girls who become best friends after meeting in Atlantic City. It is directed by one of my favourite directors, Gary Marshall. Gary Marshall also direct Pretty Woman (1990), Runaway Bride (1999) and more recently Valentine's Day (2010). A young CC Bloom (Mayim Bialik) meets a young Hilary Whitney (Marcie Leeds) under the boardwalk in Atlantic city. Bloom is hiding from her mother having a cigarette before an audition when Whitney sits down on the steps in ... Read the complete review
