Advantages: Amazing Cast
Disadvantages: Not really a male kind of film
Does anyone else have a film which they watched when they were very young which stuck with them throughout adulthood. Well mine is this film Beaches, I think I was way too young to watch the film at the time, but I fell in love with it, it had me in tears and I loved every thing about it and still to this day, maybe 10 years later, I still adore this film as much as I did then.
------------
The Plot
-------------
The film follows two young girls CC Bloom and Hilary Whitney, both from different sides of the spectrum, Hilary is from a rich family and CC is an out of work actress who has to deal with her mother who is annoying. The girls meet and become brilliant friends.
The film follows these two girls as they meet, to when they begin to write letters to each other up until their mid twenties where they meet again. The film is about friendship and how strong it truly is.

The Cast
-------------
CC Bloom- Bette Midler
Bette Midler is absolutely amazing as CC Bloom, a fantastic actress and an even better singer which she gets to show off through this film. She is a great comedic actress as well, you do find yourself laughing along with CC as she goes through the film and deals with what life has to throw at her.
Hilary Whitney- Barbara Hershey
In the song Wind Beneath My Wings, which never fails to make me cry, one of the lyrics is 'It must have been cold there in my shadow, to never have sunlight on your face, you were content to let me shine, that's your way, you always walked a step behind'. For me this describes Hershey's character to a T, she is in the shadow of CC but she is the strength of the film, she is the reason Midler is so good. A fantastic actress.

My Opinion
-------------
God I think there has been one other film that has rivalled this film to top of the 'Make Kirsty cry like a baby' poll that we have going. This film still makes me sob every time I watch it, it is a typical wheepie and one of the best chick flicks ever made in my opinion.
Gary Marshal who has directed some great films in his time, outdid himself with this amazing film which is just amazing. It really is one of the best films I have ever seen, I don't think I've cried as much as I did at the end of this film and when it comes to listening to the main song of the film I still find myself crying my eyes out.
Please if you've not seen the film be put off by the plot, as I it is very hard to explain it in a way that makes it sound an amazing film, it's a very complicated plot as it spans over a long period of time and you can't really explain why its such a wheepie film, so please excuse this, however watch this film, specifically if you're a woman as you will find yourself falling in love with this movie, I have always love this movie and always will do.
Throughout the movie the characters of CC and Whitney are so intriguing and so much fun that you know from the very beginning its going to be a good film, the film follows them from the ages of around 9 till there in their late twenties, like other films, the casting directors and the script writers have written two opposites, the rich girl and the poor struggling actor girl, and even though they shouldn't work they do and you can truly see why they became such good friends.
The film shows every side of friendship between these two girls, it shows the highs the lows and everything in between, for me this is the perfect script which has got true friendship down to a T and even thought it may be considered as a chick flick which is usually about boy meets girl, this film is very different. The two find love, but throughout it's all about their friendship.
I think for me, what made this film so great was the acting throughout, the character of CC couldn't have been more suited to anyone other than Bette Midler who took that role and grabbed it by the hand and really made the role brilliant. This is the only film I have seen with Midler in and the same for Hershey so I can't really compare but they are brilliant characters and their roles were written for them.
For me the ending will always stick in my mind, everything from the acting to the songs used throughout the last hour or so, still have me sobbing like a baby throughout the film, it's such a good ending which is so poignant and so powerful that I dare you not to cry.

The Soundtrack
---------------------
For me the soundtrack to the movie is just brilliant one of the best soundtracks ever released for a movie that is not a musical. The soundtrack is one of the reasons I find myself crying my eyes out at the end, but of course it's the main song in the film that still makes me cry to this day everytime I hear it. I'm not sure if it was wrote for the film or not, but it describes CC and Hilary to a T and the song is just beautiful and it's called 'Wing Beneath My Wings'.

Should You Buy The Film?
-------------------------------------
Oh god yes, this film is just beautiful and still makes me cry to this day. It's so moving and so powerfully acted its well worth the money spent on it and it really does make you feel. A fantastic movie especially for the price you can get it for.
