After having a bad day and feeling sorry for myself there is nothing I like more than a good cry. So I reached for my video shelf and starring me right in the eye is the film "Beaches"! An all time fav of mine and a guaranteed tear jerkier.

"Beaches" is a story about friendship, love, and sticking together through bad times. It is a film I can relate to on many different levels and I think most people who watch this film can find some kind of connection to it.

It is a story of two 11 year old girls who meet by chance one summer, Hilary Whitney, daughter of a very rich Mr Whitney is lost on the beach when she bumps into Cilia Bloom (CC Bloom) a child star from the Sammy Pinkers Kiddies Show. Both girls are very different from each other; Hilary is well brought up dressed in a white summer dress and staying in a ritzy hotel and CC is trying to make as a singer, dressed in a pink dress with tassels and tap shoes, her red hair a mess.

Despite their differences the two girls really hit it off, Hilary goes to watch CC audition for a film, and is impressed with her singing, and CC goes to the hotel that Hilary is staying in and is impressed wit her wealth.

The two girls bid far well and get photos taken in a booth, they write address's on both sides of take half each, Hilary says " Be sure to stay in touch CC" and CC replies with " Well sure, we're friends aren't we"

And so the story of a deep and wonderful friendship begins, the two girls write constantly for years well into their twenties until one day Hilary decided to leave her trapped life and join CC in her freedom!

CC and Hilary move in together and have a wonderful time being part of each others lives once more, Hilary becomes an activist and CC's career takes off after meeting a man ca
lled John.

Hillary?s father becomes sick and she has to return home, they try to stay in touch they way that they did when they were younger, but so much happens over time, both girls get married and start to lead very different lives. Hilary becomes a housewife and CC takes a part in a risky Broadway show.

When they next meet they feel they have grown apart as friends, they both decide to go their sperate ways.

I am not going to tell you exactly what happens as I do not want to spoil the ending, but lets just say when distaster strikes you know who your real true friends are, and both girls find out.

Make sure you have a box of tissues handy, because boy you are gonna need them!
