So me and my sister have just sat down and watched Bedtime stories on a rental DVD and I just have to say I am so glad it was rental film. Although we enjoyed it at first and we did give it a good go and watched it all, I think it was an extremely silly film which I expected but I just got fed up of it and started writing this review.
The story is about Skeeter who is the son of a hotelier. He got promised the Hotel when he was older but when this did not happen he became the handyman at the Hotel and feels like he need some help with his life. When his sister Wendy goes away and needs her friend Jill to look after the kids in the day and Skeeter to look after them at night the fun happens. Skeeter discovers that as he tells the kids a bedtime story it becomes true. He consequently tries to use these to his advantage which doesn't always work out.
Story-wise and it sounds quite good but I think it does not keep your attention long enough. There are only about 3 stories in the film and they are done in a way that they are not that interesting to watch and you don't really care where they go. We watched it till the end but to be honest it had not kept our attention and we were playing with the dog at the same time for the last half hour. Which is shame.
Now I usually like movies like this and I can accept a little silliness but the whole film is just stupid and has no endearing qualities. The effects are good and I can see where they were trying to go and I can see why a lot of people have liked it but it was not for me.
The characters in this film for me were a bit unlikeable. Adam Sandler plays Skeeter who is a character he is good at playing as he loves his silly films. Courtney Cox-Arquette plays Wendy and is not good. I love her but she does not suit this role and does not look like she has fun playing it. Keri Russell plays Jill who I actually do like as a character. The rest are unlikeable and very unmemorable. Even the fabulous Russell Brand was bad as Mickey the helpless friend.
The film lasts for a very long hour and a half and is suitable for everybody to watch. It is a Disney film which I am surprised with as I thought it was rubbish. I honestly could have done with something else to watch. I don't know if this was just because it was a rental but I had no special features to report on.
In conclusion I don't think I can give this film more than 2 stars and that is because the effects were decent and the story was quite an original idea. Other than that though the film does not play out well at all. Everything about it is unmemorable and I could not recommend it to anybody really. My sister has given it the same verdict as me and we are now going to watch something that will actually entertain us.
Thanks for reading.
