Advantages: Great cast, funny, well thought out

I have always been a fan of Dreamworks films so when I saw the trailer to this I was looking forward to seeing it. I am a bit of a big kid when it comes to films and one of the many advantages of being an auntie to a young niece is that I get to borrow her films!
I loved the films Ants and Bugs life so I thought why not add to my viewing knowledge and watch a film about bees!
This film is the creation of Jerry Seinfield who also plays the lead part of Barry B. Benson. His comic genious really shines through in this film and it is one of the funniest animations I have seen since Toy Story!
Barry is a bee with a bit of a difference. Having recently graduated from college Barry is horrified when he is told he has to choose just one job for life in the hive. The jobs range from honey stirers to nectar collecters (pollen jocks!). How could he possibly tie himself down to just one job for life?!
Barry is intreagued by the outside world and spends a day out with the pollen jocks. All goes well until Barry is separated from the group and ends up getting caught up in a rain storm..........bee's can't fly in rain! He ends up flying though an apartment window to escape and is nearly swatted by a human!
Barry's life is saved by the human Vanessa played by Renee Zellweger who is the local florist. She intervenes when her boyfriend tries to swat Barry saying why is his life worth any less than his. Barry breaks the main rule of the bees in order to thank her and talks to her. After her initial shock of a talking bee their friendship grows and Barry get's an insight into the human world, but it's not all good! He is horrified at the fact that humans steal honey for their own use! And so the story begins!
This film has a great cast and they are all so well suited to their characters. Apart from Jerry and Renee other actors voices you will recognise are Matthew Broderick, John Goodman, Chris Rock and Patrick Warburton.
The graphics are great which is to be expected from Dreamworks. You are gripped from the very start of the film as you are introduced to the hive the bees live in. The film has been very well thought out and I can honestly say that I will never look at a bee in the same way again!
The extras on this dvd are also good. There is a section for the kids to find out more about different types of bees and how much their stings hurt! I enjoyed the section where you could see the actors in action and how much fun they had making the film. there was a lot of ad-lib going on which really adds to the comical value of this movie.
I would recommend this to everyone, yong or old! It's the best animated film I have seen in a long time!
Summary: A great film for all ages
