Premium Review Beetlejuice (DVD): Do You Dare Say The "B" Word Three Times (452 words)
by - written on 09/01/09 (Very useful, 114 readings)
Rating:

The brilliant Tim Burton has done it again and produced another masterpiece. Beetlejuice is a comedy horror, that was released in August 1988. It stars Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones, Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton. The film was released quite a few years ago (I would only have been 3 at the time), but this is the first time in recent years that I have had the chance to watch it. When I was younger I couldn't appreciate what is simply a stunning and original film. Many of my all time favourite films such as The Nightmare Before Christmas came from the mind of Tim, and I owe him a lot for giving us so many hours of ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Beetlejuice (410 words)

To believe Hollywood sometimes we must have a morbid fascination with the idea of our being able to return from the dead and particularly the comic potential that the undead have. Tim Burtons Beetlejuice follows the exploits of the Maitlands who after dying in a car accident return as ghouls to play havoc on the Deetzes. Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis star as Adam and Barbara Maitland with Jeffrey Jones and Catherine O'Hara as the Deetzes. The twist on it is that the audience sees things very much from the side of the Maitlands and are invited to support their ghoulish tricks. As the Deetzes are truly the family from hell (neat twist there) then you can tell it is ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Beetlejuice (DVD): Tim Burton's Classic Horror Comedy (642 words)

If you are looking for something out of the ordinary or with wonderfully freaky visuals then you can't get better than movies by a directed caled Tim Burton. This guy si 100% consistent in giving us movies which are a little off the wall and wacky, and which are delightfully viewing because of that. Beetlejuice is one of his earlier works, but it stands the test of time well...well enough to deserve a watch. The plot behind Beetlejuice is as bizarre as it is simple. Ok, its not simple, but it is definitely bizarre. A young couple find themselves all of a sudden very...dead. Perturbed by this fact they also find that months have past and that their house is ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Beetlejuice (DVD): A film for the recently deceased.... (368 words)
by - written on 11/10/00 (Very useful, 78 readings)
Rating:

Beetlejuice is an awe-inspiring, wonderfully amusing, film that explores the possibilities of the after-life and the boundaries of the absurd. Telling the tale of a recently dead married couple that suddenly gets led into the chaotic world of the supernatural. The storyline is kind of a twist of the kids bedtime story 'Rumplestiltskin' but captured on film. Adam and Barbara Maitland (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) discover many of the conflicting rather human imperfections that haunt the lives of the living also plague the afterlife as well. It takes them a while to figure out that they're dead (from a car crash), and even longer to realize ...  Read the complete review
