In the corporate Hollywood world of big actor names and high-budget, effects-driven films leaving little to the imagination, it?s always a treat when a movie is released that manages to appeal to those who enjoy using their minds as well as their air-punching fists. ?Being John Malkovich? is not an arty or cerebral film, but certainly caters more towards the intellectual population more than the Stallone fans. BRIEF PLOT OUTLINE The film begins in a relatively low-key way that belies the bizarre developments as out-of-work puppeteer Craig Schwartz ... Read the complete review

I'll never forget 'Being John Malkovich' for two main reasons. Firstly because I think it's one of the best films of 2000 that I saw in the cinema, and secondly because my girlie got me the DVD of it for Xmas! I also own the soundtrack which I won from a competition. Charlie Kaufman's script for this film is probably one of the most original and refreshing ideas of the year. He must've looked beyond any kind of hallucent to come up with this, as I'd be hardpressed about thinking up something so good, and then the fact that it's beautifully and cleverly directed by Spike Jonze (of music video directing fame such as Beastie Boy's ... What a strange film this is, Spike Jonze is a god, after directing music videos for a long time (such as the fantasic Sabotage by The Beastie Boys) and then starring in one of the best movies of last year Three Kings he goes on to direct this epic picture. John Cusack plays Craig Schwartz a puppeteer who is not to sucessful, so he decides to take on an office job has a filing clerk at LesterCorp which is based on the 7th and a half floor of an office building (built so dwarfs could work in this office and feel the right height). While working at Lestercorp he drops a file behind the cabinet, when he pulls the cabinet out he finds a door. He enters the ... Read the complete review

Being John Malcovich is a 1999 film directed by Spike Jonze starring John Cusack, Cameron Diaz and Catherine Keener. Billed as a dramedy (according to wikipedia anyway): a blend of comedy and drama. Even though there was no shortage of drama, for a comedy, it wasn't very funny - I think I only actually laughed aloud once through the whole thing. The film stars John Cusack as Craig, an out of work puppeteer who finds work at an office where he falls madly in love and discovers a tunnel allowing the entrant to "be" the famous actor John Malkovich (played by himself) for 15 minutes. The film is certainly original, I'd be a madman ... Read the complete review

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to see the world through someone else's eyes? Have you ever thought how different life would be if you had been born as a different person? And have you ever made your brain hurt by thinking about the fact that you will only ever see the world from your own point of view, and never experience the thoughts and feelings of anyone else? I know I have. Perhaps it's just me, but I don't think so. This film explores the possibility of actually being someone else - and all the questions and problems that this possibility raises. Knowing that "Being John Malkovich" is a film by Spike Jonze, the man responsible for - ... Read the complete review
