Advantages: A nice piece of direction

Disadvantages: Makes you realise how much Keira Knightley's acting has gone down hill

Parminder Nagra (ER) stars in this film about a football crazy 18 year old seikh girl from London who defies her parents and joins up with a local womens football team. Her idol is Beckham (hence the title). She befriends Jules (Keira Knightley) when she joins the clubs, but their common interest in their football coach (Jonathon Rhys Meyers) causes tension.

The film is directed by Gurinder Chadha (also renowned for film Bride and Prejudice- another fusion of Indian and English culture) and received rave reviews upon its release from many reputable outfits. The cast also includes Juliet Stevenson and Shaznay Lewis (off All Saints fame).

What I love about this film is the fusion of cultures it represents; you see both the very English pasttime of football, and scenes involving a traditional Seikh wedding. The actors provide adequate performances, with Keira's being the best she's produced in a long time.

Summary: Indian and English culture come together to make a marvelous movie
