Advantages: Endearing, fantastic storyline

Disadvantages: None

I have surprised myself with this film really. The subject of the film and the little known cast should have made it a one-time-watch. The big surprise is that I have watched this three times on DVD and once on television, so you can probably guess which way my review is going.

The two main characters are played by Parminder Nagra who also appeared in British sitcom The Kumars, this lead to her first film role in Bend It... since this she has appeared in many seasons of ER. Kiera Knightley needs little introduction, apart from the fact that she is a babe and a very talented one at that. She started her career in 1993 in an episode of Screen One (Little Girl) and has since starred in Pirates of the Caribbean and Atonement. Bend It Like Beckham really caught these two very early on in their careers.

This films follows Jess (Parminder) who lives as part of a very strict Indian family. Their ideal is for her to marry a nice Indian boy and learn how to cook and provide for a family. Jess has other ideas though, as she is totally crazy about football. This is where she meets Jules (Kiera) and they both really excel at their game, taking them to a a really big competition.

The whole film is really endearing and pleasant to watch, which goes some way to explain why I don't mind watching it more than once. It is an 'easy' film to watch. Their are some 'ahhhh' moments and some funny scenes too. Rated at 12, I think this is about right. A very worthwhile Sunday afternoon choice.

Summary: A great Brisith film, Parminder and Keira make it work
