Eddie Murphy rose to stardom as Axel Foley, a streetwise and brash young Detroit cop in this comic blockbuster that combined frenetic action, hysterical rough-edged comedy, and a chart-topping rock & roll soundtrack...you know...the one everyone has as their mobile phone ringtone...

"When his best friend is murdered, Axel heads off to Beverly Hills in an effort to track down the killer. The resulting culture shock is only one of his difficulties: Often operating just outside the law in his determination to capture the murderer, he finds himself repeatedly clashing with the local authorities as well as his supervisor back home. With the help of Beverly Hills detective Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and his partner, Sergeant Taggart (John Ashton), Axel is able to track down the killer, who turns out to be Victor Maitland (Steven Berkoff), a wealthy, powerful, and respected member of the California community. It is up to Axel to outsmart the evil British criminal, who is protected inside his fortresslike mansion. Featuring hysterical supporting performances from Bronson Pinchot as Serge--an effeminate, thickly accented art gallery clerk--and comedian Damon Wayans, among others, the film is one of the funniest comedies of the 1980s'.

This film was very funny and action packed. The action starts more or less straight away when the police start chasing a van...and is continued throughout, with clever snippets of humour to make sure the audience pays full attention.

I have seen this film many times and i have to say there isnt a dull moment. One of my favorite scenes has to be when Axel stops the police tailing him...with banana's??? yeah banana's, a funny scene you have to watch.

The ending is not a let down, unlike some films. The action is carried through thw whole film with a big scene at the end.

Murphy is great in this role...funny...genuine and believable...did you know Sylvester Stallone was origi
nally in mind to play this role??...well persoanlly i dont think the role could have been played better.

Now......the slipups......watch carefully..

'Watch the part where Axel Foley goes into the restaurant to see Victor. Look at Axel when he throws Victor's bodyguard over the table. Looks more like Richard Pryor than Eddie Murphy'

one more...

'In the scene where Eddie first goes to the hotel in Beverly Hills, and overhears the guy being rejected for a room because he has no reservation.
Now he goes up to the counter, and starts to ask for HIS room... just as he starts to mention that he is getting refused himself, the camera goes to a shot of the desk person, and the back of the head of Eddie Murphy. This is where you have to look careful. As Eddie is speaking, most people will look at the look on the face of the man behind the counter... but instead, watch the jaw movement of Eddie Murphy. You can clearly tell that the words he is speaking do NOT match the words that are coming out of his mouth'.
