-(The Plot)-
The basic plot-line follows 32 year old Sonny Koufax. Sonny has pretty much dodged the bullet of responsibility his whole life, until now. As his Girlfriend dumps him for another man, thanks to the fact that Sonny is a lazy bum, Sonny adopts a five-year old called Julian (Cole and Dylan Sprouse) to show he's responsible. It didn't work out, and now Sonny has to look after him...forever. The plot is actually quite interesting to see how it ends. It's also quite funny to see how Sonny takes care of Julian, because he certainly doesn't take care of him like any normal parent does. A reason the plot is so great is because of the cast and the dialogue.
-(The Characters)-
The main character is Sonny Koufax, who is played by Adam Sandler, who has starred in films like Billy Madison, The Longest Yard and Happy Gilmore. Adam Sandler does a fantastic job of reading his lines, and he also makes the lines funnier than they would be with another actor because, well it's Adam Sandler. But Sandler isn't the best actor in the film, the real star, or should i say stars, Cole and Dylan Sprouse. They really, really are cute and they help the film give it's heart-warming moments that the film also has. Also they read their lines really well. Other actors include Rob Schmider, who is funny as hell and reads his lines fantastically, as well as Joey Lauren Adams (The Break Up), Jon Stewart (Death to Smoochy) and Kristy Swanson (CSI Miami). Overall the cast is really great, and make the film funny and heart-warming as well. I couldn't imagine the cast any different. Some of the dialogue is hilarious, here's an example of a really hilarious...
VANNESA:(She's talking about a man who's about 60)He's already achieved so much and yet he's still goal oriented and still focused and he has a five year plan.
SONNY:What is it, don't die?
Yet there's still some really heart-warming moments that will melt your heart, here's an example...
JULIAN:Look daddy, i did it, loop, swoop and pull.
SONNY:Jesus you did do it, congratulations kid, i showed him that.
It has a perfect mix of hilarious moment and heart-melting moments.
The film is directed really well, with some really good shots. Though there's nothing fancy or anything like that. Also the film looks really convincing for a film that was made more than 5 years ago, especially in those heart-warming moments.
-(The Soundtrack)-
The soundtrack is pretty good, but not the best to be heard in a film. The soundtrack includes songs from artists like Van Helen, Limp Bizkit and Bruce Springsteen. The song that stood out to me most was Sheryl Crow's version of 'Sweet Child O' Mine' because it really suited the film and flt right at place. But the song that really put me off the soundtrack was Garbage's 'When I Grow Up' because it just felt really out of place and didn't suit the film's vibe at all. Other songs i liked included Limp Bizkit's 'Just Like This' and Gun's and Roses version of 'Sweet Child O' Mine. In the end the soundtrack is a mix of good songs, great songs and bad songs.
-(The Extras)-
There's a few extras to be found. There's the U.S. theatrical trailer and the International trailer, which are both pretty much the same but with some things cut from the international trailer that were in the U.S. trailer. As well as the trailers there's also a Behind The Scenes featurette, which you will hear from some of the members of cast from the film as they talk about the film and what the felt about acting in the film. Also there's a Talent Profiles featurette, which is basically tells you about the actors profile, though it's a little useless now as it only tells you about the films the actors starred in up to Big Daddy, any films they starred in after Big Daddy will not be on there. And last, but not least, there's a couple of music videos, which are Sheryl Crow's 'Sweet Child O' Mine' and Garbage's 'When I Grow Up'. 'Sweet Child O' Mine' isn't bad, but 'When I Wake Up' is pretty awful because it feels really out of place because the video is downright weird.
-(My Conclusion)-
Big Daddy is a funny film, but it's also quite heart-warming. The plot is very interesting, the cast is superb, the dialogue is funny and the extras are great. I loved it, because it has Adam Sandler in it and it's just so heart-warming and funny at the same time. And it was also damn cheap. If you want a film with Adam Sandler in it then buy this now or i you want a great comedy with some heart warming moments then you'll love it as well. It's also very cheap now so you won't lose much money to buy it.
-(Where You Can Buy It)-

- 04/01/07 what a film! Adam Sandler is on par with the likes of Jim Carey and Robin Williams for me If he's on the cast list...I want the film! As below i felt this one to be a little short and sweet not much of your lovely personality seeping through there and not as much op on the actual film. still VH though just not up to the usual scratch is all. |
