Advantages: great performances by whole cast, good soundtrack, Steve Buscemi

Disadvantages: wee bit of slush towards finale

Adam sandler is a funny guy. I don't know him personally or anything but you can tell by watching him that he isn't a tortured artist. But something must be bugging him about the slump of recent movies he has released. There was Happy Gilmore, a cult comedy classic. Billy Madison, patchy but some great moments. Then there was The Wedding Singer, a career best performance let down by that soppy drippy wench Drew Barrymore. However recently Sandler has made some bad movies. The Waterboy, possibly his worst movie ever and Little Nicky not really that bad but again spoiled by some terrible slush and the thing that links it to The Waterboy, that damn stupid voice.

Fortunately Big Daddy sees Adam Sandler speaking like a real person. When his character Sonny is abandoned by his girl friend for some old guy he vows to become more responsible. So along comes this really cute kid Julian ( played by some twins ), the estranged son of Sonnys' best friend, and Sonny sees a way to get back in his girlfriends good books by looking after the Kid while his friend is away. So Sonny pretends to be his dad to the authorities and much hilarity ensues as the kid pees the bed, eats lots of junk food and the two become best friends. In the mean time Sonny falls for his best friends girlfriends sister and faces losing the boy and going to jail when he is rumbled by the authorities.

Adam sandler is close to his great performances again by simply just playing himself and the kid is suitably adorable. The best things about this film however are the cameos by Steve Buscemi ( reservoir dogs ) as a tramp haunted by his childhood with a disciplinarian father. Also the cameo by Rob Schneider ( deuce Bigalow ) as the immigrant food delivery guy who likes to hang out with Sonny And Julian. There seems to be an ensemble of people who are in all of Sandlers films, Buscemi has also appeared in The Wedding Singer and Billy Madison and Schneider appears in a lot of Sandlers m
ovies as some guy who shouts out ' You can do it ' at some relevant point. Quite what the in joke is i would like to know ( someone ? ) also the rest of the supporting cast has also appeared in other Sandler Movies.

It is the supporting cast that keep this movie fairly deep letting us explore more jokes than simply a kid acting cute or saying funny grown up things. A little bit of slush lets this down and drags it below Happy Gilmore and The Wedding Singer as Sandlers best but i did think i would hate it so i was pleasantly surprised.

I personally think the waterboy was a lot better than little nicky and maybe even billy madison. Very good op.

Personally, I thought it was hilarious. The 'slush' rounds the film off if you ask me. Good op.
