American cop movies - one of the greatest clichés known to Mankind - throw in a laugh or two and you have the stock box office hit. Big Momma's House - starring bug eyed Martin Lawrence, who I've not seen in anything else but the relatively slight Blue Streak - is a pretty run of the mill example of the comedy cop genre and even some excellent make up and latex masks which for once are actually realistic can't change that. Lawrence plays a cop whose thing is masquerading and he and his partner are trying to catch up with an escaped felon who is on the run and trying to recover his ill gotten gains. His former girlfriend Shari supposedly ... Read the complete review

Generally just a Martin Lawrence vehicle. Lawrence plays an FBI agent along with his white long suffering partner (Lethal Weapon reversal there!) has to stake out Big Momma's House because the former girlfriend of a criminal may be staying there. After successfully setting the house up with the surveillance system and seeing a whole lotta flesh they settle back to watch. Unfortunately Big Momma decides to take a vacation so what do our hapless heroes do when the girl their supposed to watch rings up to ask if she can stay. They say yes of course - but wait Big Momma ain't gonna be there!!! Fortunately Lawrence's character is an expert ... Read the complete review

Instinct can tell you pretty easily: Big Momma's House is not going to be a good movie. But you may decide to chance it anyway, if you're like me and have already seen everything at the multiplex. And you'll find yourself laughing a few times -- five, six times; upwards of a dozen if you're drunk. In the end, though, Big Momma's House is a dumbed-down mess of a movie that can't decide if it wants to be a gross-out comedy, an action flick or a conventional romance. What's more, with its single-handed focus on creating a Martin Lawrence vehicle, it wastes some damn good actors. I'm not saying Paul "Pig Vomit" Giamatti ... Read the complete review

i did think that the big mommas house ripped off the nutty proffessor but it woz very funny and enteraining i thought. i went with my friends to go to watch it at the cinemas but we didn't have laughing fits! if u r big and can't take people humouring u about it i wudn't personally go to c it coz u might feel uneasy after watching it coz of all the 'fat' jokes which it contains. i thought that the story line woz very realistic which made it good for me. i'm not into things which ain't that realistic my self but go and c it and c wot u think. theres two ways of looking at this movie as either boring and a rip off from nutty ... My god it was so funny the first time, and then the second time but by the time its use the fat gag 100 times its just wasn’t funny. Im going to be a bit hard on this film but it didn’t impress me, I came out the cinema and thought to my self wait, im sure I could have made more laughs in an hour and half then Big Mama’s house gave me. Ok so its easy to sit back here and to complain im sure its not easy to make a movie but surly they could have done better then this. You know when you want to cringe because you feel somebody else’s embarrassment well it was like that, I felt so embarrassed for the director and writer of this flick ...
