Lily starts of as a barrier to Nina's development. Nina sees how naturally Lily can be the black swan character and how easily she lets herself go of herself in her performances, where Nina is always in control of her technique and general actions. However, Lily becomes part of Nina's life, and the more she is exposed to Lily's way ...more

Black Swan is a film I have wanted to see since its release in 2010. I am a little uncultured in some arts. I know not a lot about ballet, but I do like watching it. I had seen clips for this film, and heard many good things about it, so I went into watching it with an open mind, and quite high expectations due to its main star, Natalie Portman who won both an Oscar and a BAFTA for her role in 2011. The plot of this film surrounds a New York ballet company who are putting on a production of the famous Swan Lake. Portman play Nina Sayers, a girl very dedicated to her training, and who desperately wants the coveted role of the Queen Swan. Her competition is ...  Read the complete review

Black Swan FILM ONLY REVIEW 'Black Swan' was one of the most talked about films when it first came out, on par with 'The Kings Speech' in the film nomination awards, yet it just did not appeal to me. I have seen a few films which follow dancing, and although I am not a dancer myself, nor do I take any interest in dancing, I have found myself enjoying them, though there was just something about this film which did not appeal to me. This is the reason why it has taken me a while to actually watch it, and I only ended up doing so as I was at a loss of what to do and watch! So, what did I think of ...  Read the complete review

With Darren Aronofsky having previously directed The Wrestler I had high expectations of this new film of his, and I was not disappointed. Natalie Portman, the star, thoroughly deserved her Best Actress award at the Oscars for her stunning performance here. This is another of those films where providing a synopsis could prove difficult, but I'll give it my best shot... Natalie Portman plays Nina- a young ballerina working at the New York City Ballet and obsessed with dancing. She lives at home with her mother, a former ballerina who seems as obsessed with Nina's dancing as she is, if not more so. Just before work on the latest production, Swan Lake, ...  Read the complete review

Was there a film in 2010 that was more hotly anticipated and more talked about than Darren Aronofsky's "Black Swan"? Ever since the film premiered at the Venice Film Festival to warm reception, it also travelled to London for the BFI film festival where tickets were sold out at an alarming rate, the Oscar-buzz has been quite literally non-stop, critics are unanimously praising Natalie Portman's central performance, and the small independent production is already proving to be a box office hit in the States. Does Aronofsky's new film really deserve so much attention and hype? The simple answer is, yes: "Black Swan" is one of the most intriguing, ...  Read the complete review

"I had the strangest dream last night, about a girl who turned into a swan..." When her ballet company decides to put on a fresh re-telling of the classic Swan Lake story, Nina is desperate to land the starring role. She's an excellent dancer, but her characteristic striving for perfection only magnifies her nervous, apprehensive personality, meaning that she's ideal for the timid white swan - but completely unsuitable for the other extreme: the seductive black swan. For, you see, in Swan Lake one dancer plays two roles of utterly opposing traits. It's no spoiler to reveal that Nina does indeed land her role of a lifetime, but can she overcome a ...  Read the complete review
