Okay. So, the set up is pretty familiar - tourists end up heading out into the back of beyond where they get stranded and promptly terrorised. In this case, you've got a woman, Grace; her boyfriend, Adam, and her sister, Lee. And in the blue corner, there's a bloody massive crocodile. The warning signs were there right from the beginning. The 'based on true events' tag, the fact that there were two directors credited, the initial cursory dialogue, the minimal/lazy characterisation, the recklessness of the characters choosing their holiday activities... Black Water. During a trip through a Mangrove swamp in Australia Grace (Diana Glenn), her husband Adam (Andy Rodoreda) and Grace's little sister Lee (Maeve Dermody) find themselves attacked by a crocodile. The boat has been capsized, the guide is missing and although Adam & Grace make it to the relative safety of a tree, Lee is stuck on the bottom of the upturned boat. This film was mistakenly labelled "Dark Water" on my TV guide, so I was somewhat surprised when it turned out actually to be an Australian low-budget film about crocodiles, rather than a ghost-related horror. Nevertheless, it looked interesting, and soon reminded me of another film, Open Water. Story This film is set in North Australia, and begins with the statement that both the crocodile and human populations there are growing. Lee is on holiday with her big sister Grace, and Grace's partner Adam.
