The third series of the Richard Curtis and Ben Elton penned historical sitcom Blackadder faced the challenge of making “a period in history nobody knows about” funny. As History lessons had ensured I had a general knowledge of British society and Government of the time, the show’s only goal as far as I was concerned was to make a period of history that is incredibly boring, funny. ‘Blackadder the Third’ excels at this and although perhaps not as widely seen as the hugely popular second and fourth series of the show, the plots and humour are up to the same high standard. CAST Blackadder: “Hundreds of years from now, I want episodes from ... Read the complete review

The third instalment in the Blackadder series moves forward in time once again, taking place in Georgian England this time and casting Rowan Atkinson not as a prince or a lord but as a lowly butler, albeit to prince George, aka The Prince of Wales. Baldrick (Tony Robinson) is present again as Blackadder's idiotic manservant, although Percy (Tim McInnery) is nowhere to be found, with Mcinnery only appearing briefly in one episode as the Scarlet Pimpernel. Hugh Laurie instead steps in to fill the void left by Percy, playing Prince George as an inbred, pompous and utterly clueless moron. Whilst Laurie puts in a great performance, the formula somehow ... In each series Blackadder must not only try and put up with Baldrick's dim wits and poor personal hygiene standards but also an equally dim-witted aristocrat (Lord Percy Percy played by Tim McInnerny in series 1 and 2, Prince George in series 3 and Lieutenant George in series 4 both played by Hugh Laurie). The third ... Read the complete review

Blackadder The Third is the third series in the Blackadder saga, charting the Blackadders from the middle ages to the trenches of WWI. This series is set in the late 18th/early 19th century, a period sometimes referred to as the regency. Blackadder in this time is butler to the Prince of Wales (Hugh Laurie) and Baldrick is Blackadder's dogsbody. As well as them there is also Mrs. Miggins, owner of a coffee shop that Edmund frequents and even Samuel Johnson (Robbie Coltrane) and the prime minister at the time, William Pitt the younger, played and written brilliantly as a snotty nosed teenager who is concerned about the various changes his body is going through, ...
