Black Adder.
=========
A timeless comedic fest.
Rowan Atkinson is simply superb here and I hope you get a sense of my enjoyment from the following review of the first series
Black Adder ran for 4 series but this review is about just the first.
The first series was set in the 15th century and follows the rise of Black Adder after he accidentally cuts of the kings' head in a confused battle melee.
Series 1:
======
1. The Foretelling
2. Born to be King.
3. The Archbishop
4. The Queen of Spain's Beard
5. Witchsmeller Persuivant
6. The Black Seal
The second series was set in the 16th century and follows Black Adder as he sucks up to queen bess and nearly, on several occassions, loses his head.
Series 2
-----------
1.Bells
2. Head
3. Potato
4. Money
5. Beer
6. Chains
The 3rd series is set in 18th Century and Blackadder is a butler to the prince regent George. Baldrick is his usual dopey self.
Series 3:
======
1. Dish & Dishonesty
2. Ink & Incapability
3. Nob & Nobility
4. Sense & Senility
5. Amy & Amiability
6. Duel & Duality
The 4th series is set in 20th century during the 1st world war.
Series 4:
======
1. Captain Cook.
2. Corporal Punishment
3. Major Star
4. Private Plane
5. General Hospital
6. Goodbyeee
The combined writing skills of Curtis, Ben Elton and Rowan Atkinson is simply sensational. The comedy and witty lines come thick and fast. It is one of those series you can watch again simply to catch some of the many jokes that you missed on the first watching.
The pairing of Rowan Atkinson and Tony Robinson was a masterly stroke of genius. Who can forget Baldricks catchphrase, 'I have a cunning Plan, which was anything but cunning.
The DVD is worth the money, although it has little extras, Subtitles, chapter selection and some small back ground filling to the series.
Recommended.
Summary: WORTH EVERY PENNY.

- 12/11/09 Rather short on detail - just one sentence on series four? Nothing wrong with what you have written, but more would have been welcome. |
