Advantages: Frantic pace, great effects

Disadvantages: plot's a bit flimsy

Blade II kicks off quite literally where Blade left us. The Daywalker aka Blade finds himself in continuing on his quest to rid the world of vampires. He's also keen to track down his old partner Whistler. Now this is quite confusing as in Blade it seemed Whistler had infact killed himself as Blade walked away, but we are soon to learn that no he isn't dead but has merely been turned and is being held by a group of vampires. Blade proceeds to rescue him and put him through an extreme form of cold turkey to "cure" him using some kind of serum. This begs the question - why doesn't Blade use the same stuff on himself to cure his bloodlust?

Anyway the plot of part 2 soon emerges as we meet Luke Goss as "Nomak", he is a new far deadlier strain of vampire known quite simply as a "Reaper". The major difference between the reapers and normal vampires is that reapers feed on vampires as well as humans. Needless to say this has the vampire population in a bit of a panic. Cue the introduction of the Bloodpack - a crack unit of vampires trained for years to go after, yup you guessed it, Blade. However with this new threat rearing it's ugly head they forget about their grievances with Blade and realise that the best course of action for all involved is to team up and try and stop the reapers.

This they do and with the help of some seemingly endless fight sequences and the usual splash of coolness from Wesley Snipes we have a very entertaining couple of hours. Yes it's a popcorn film, yes it has some massive plot holes (see above Whislter example) but for sheer adrenaline pumping, gore-tastic, vampire slaying action this is by far the best thing since, well Blade.

The pace is unrelenting and the fight sequences really are something special, you may well see the plot twists coming but you won't have time to care. Fans of the original sit back and enjoy, I know I did.

Loved the first one. Especially the 'club' scene. (Not seen this one yet)

Sometimes sequels can be a bit of a let down! Hey ho, that's life though!
