We have all seen the average Vampire movie. A man or woman, who appears human but has pointed teeth, wears black and can change into a bat. Blade reinvents this genre of movie by including stunts, incredible special effects, amazing fight scenes and a killer soundtrack.

The plot revolves around Blade (Wesley Snipes) a vampire hunter. He is however not human himself. He ages like a human, shares the power and intelligence of a vampire yet has none of their weaknesses. He is immortal making him the perfect adversary for Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff) a powerful vampire with the intent of leading his followers to conquer the human race. This sets the scene for plenty of confrontations between Blade and Frost and enables the incorporation plenty of superb fight scenes.

The acting is quite superb from all the cast, especially Wesley Snipes. He manages to portray Blade in a believable way, which is hard considering he is meant to be immortal. Although immortal he steers clear from the terminator, walk through fire type of immortal. It is in my opinion a hard role to play but Wesley has done an incredible job. His adversary is Stephen Dorff. He manages to appear sufficiently evil to make him a believable villain. He does also however appear convincing as a vampire, which is an impressive feat. All supporting cast give excellent performances too. The cast manages to make the film appear convincing even due to its abnormal content.

The action is superb. There are gunfights and sword fights, which are all well choreographed and superbly filmed. The fight scenes in particular are brilliant because it makes Wesley Snipes appear like a martial arts expert and can often be more interesting than the usual gun fight. The special effects are brilliant with vampires’ literally disappearing skin first. There are also heads exploding causing blood to splatter everywhere. So whatever you do stick to 18 certificate and don’t buy it for your 12-year
-old kid. It is however great for us adults.

It’s certainly different from the usual Hollywood movie so if I were you I would give it a go and see what you think. In my opinion it is excellent and I will watch it again and again. Give it a go
