Uwe Boll is known as something of a shlock maestro, churning out shoddy effort after shoddy effort, with his numerous adaptations of computer games, such as Far Cry, House of the Dead, Alone in the Dark, and now, perhaps the biggest crime of all, largely because it features an oddly distinguished cast, Bloodrayne. Above all else, this is an incredibly loose telling of the game - Rayne (Kristanna Loken) is a human and vampire hybrid whose father Vampire King Kagan (Ben Kingsley) is threatening to destroy the human race. Bloodrayne is a 2006 film starring Kristianna Loken as a half-vampire hell bent on revenge against her evil father. It is based on the computer game of the same name, and like many unfortunate transitions from game to film, it doesn't pass muster. Loken stars as Rayne, a half-vampire. However, her father, Kagan (Ben Kingsley) has a whole horde of vampire followers, and defeating him will not be easy. On ... Read the complete review

89. Bloodrayne (2005) [film only review] Bloodrayne started life as a computer game, but I've never played it, so I'm reviewing this film entirely on it's own merits. I've never seen a film by director Uwe Boll before, and if this is indicative of his style and talent I hope never to see one again. In recent years he seems to enjoy adapting video games, with titles like Alone in the Dark, House of the Dead, Dungeon Siege, and this autumn's Postal. He also seems to enjoy violence, gore and boobies, which Bloodrayne provides in perhaps overly generous portions. Okay, let's be honest – this is just plain gratuitous. Gratuitous unoriginal nonsense at that. ... Read the complete review
