The film has a really sad element over hanging it from start to finish which is a bit depressing and annoying. I hate the way that pretty much every animation I have seen has a really sad part to it. It's uncalled for. The ending is really cool and gets the blood pumping with some really good action that made me will Bolt on to succeed in what he was doing. The charac...more

Premium Review Bolt (DVD): Bolt: "What is this red liquid coming from my paw? " (485 words)

Bolt is a 2008 animated film from Disney, directed by Chris Williams, who worked previously on the Disney films Mulan and The Emperor's New Groove, and produced by Pixar's John Lasseter. The film is Walt Disney Animation Studios 48th animated feature, and their third full computer animated film. The basic plot is as follows; Bolt is a fearless super dog that fights crime alongside his girl owner, Penny. There's just one thing though, the two are actually the stars of a hit TV show, but Bolt isn't aware of this. The programme makers and Penny (reluctantly) keep the fact that Bolt is starring on TV a secret from him, so he really believes he has super powers. ...  Read the complete review

=== Synopsis === Bolt is an action hero, given super powers as a youngster, he now helps his companion Penny to find her father; you was kidnapped by The Green Eyed Man. Oh yes, Bolt is a dog and the star of a top TV show, the only problem is Bolt thinks the TV show is reality, having never been off the studio set. So when Bolt accidentally gets packaged into a box and posted across the country, just after filming a two part cliff hanger in which Penny gets captured, Bolt believes he's the only one who can save her. With the help of three pigeons, Bolt questions an alley cat (who he believes works for the Green Eyed Man) called ...  Read the complete review

Bolt stands unique, seeing as it is Disney's first film since the Disney/Pixar relationship was re-established. Thus, Pixar's famed director and animator John Lasseter (who directed Toy Story, arguably Pixar's best and most revolutionary film) doesn't take the reigns here, but he is the producer and oversaw production, lending many of his Pixar animators to Disney for the film. A girl named Penny (Miley Cyrus) and a dog named Bolt (John Travolta) are stars of a TV show that features Bolt as a superhuman dog, however, the twist is that outside of the TV show, he believes that he has these super-powers. Furthermore, the show's crew go to rather extremely lengths ...  Read the complete review

I love watching animated films, not because I am a child at heart but because I always know I'm going to be entertained. I think they are films for any occasion and all ages which make them easy and comfortable to watch. They are a safe watch for a Friday night rental or a trip to the cinema. I knew I was going to be satisfied with Bolt but the real issue is whether or not Bolt would be up there with the all the time greats of animated films. I'm talking about the likes of Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Shrek and personally for me Monsters Inc and Ice Age. From recent films I'd put Wall-E as the more modern classic. So Bolt was going to be good, but how good? The ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Bolt (DVD): Are you hungry? I'm starving! (676 words)

Good old Disney does it again with this great animation comedy about a canine TV superhero who finds things are a bit different in the real world. I have to admit, I was very dubious about this when I first heard about the basic plot concept, but then I should really throw caution to the wind, as I have been dubious about most recent animations and have enjoyed all of them. Bolt is a superdog. He is the superstar of TV, saving his person, Penny, and thwarting the evil Dr Calico at every turn. However, having been bred for showbiz, he doesn't have any concept of the fact that he is merely a TV dog, and that all of his super powers are faked and contrived, with ...  Read the complete review
