About the movie
The full title of this movie is Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan... but most simply refer to it as "Borat"... The film was released in cinema's in 2006... It was then released on DVD on 5th March 2007. Borat has so far made over $260 million worldwide. It stars the excellent english comedian Sacha Baron Cohen as Borat - who also wrote and produced it. For this movie Sacha won the 2007 Golden Globe Award for Best Actor: Musical/Comedy while the film was nominated for Best Motion Picture in the same category. The movie itself was knocked constantly by critics before it was even released. Although Sacha is acting, most of the rest of the movie features interactions with other people who are not actors. Most Arab countries actually banned this movie whilst Russia discouraged their cinema's not to show it.
Borat Sagdiyev is famous in his home country of Kazakstan as a TV presenter. Borat is extremely sexist (he doesnt see women as being equal to men) and he also hates Jewish people (He thinks they are all evil and devil-like). We learn a few things about Borat in the earlier parts of the mobie such as he is of Slavic descent and he also states he was born on 27 February 1972. The opening scenes in the movie are actually filmed in Kazakstan - in Borats hometown, Kuzcek, Kazakh SSR (which of course is a fictional place) in these scenes he introduces his family and the "colourful" town charecters. These include his mother (who is seen shouting abuse at him), his sister Natalya (who is "the number four best prostitute in all of Kazakhstan" and the town rapist - Boltok the Rapist, who is also stated to be his maternal grandfather as well as his brother and uncle.
Borat is chosen to go to America to film a documentary on life in the USA to bring his findings home to Kazakstan. He leaves his crazy town behind and flys off to America with his fellow kazakhstanian producer Azamat Bagatov, and his pet chicken. Most of the americans in the film believe he is a genuinne foreigner with no understanding of their country or customs.
The main aim of the plot is Borat watching Baywatch on the TV and falling instantly in love with Pamela Anderson. He then believes he cannot do anything about his obsession as his wife will likely cut off his balls. He then recieves a telemessage that his wife was killed by a bear. He is quite ecstatic about the news - he then proceeds to buy an old ice cream truck as a method of transport and makes the long journey across the country to reach California and meet his true love.
There is plenty of gags and humour in this film but some of the stuff that is played out is unbelievable how he has managed to get away with bringing this to the big screen. Its sure to be offended many people. In my opinion though its a really funny film and everyone should watch this :-)
Summary: Overall its a brilliant watch - I would reccomend this :-)
