I am quite simply a massive Bottom fan. I own all 3 series released on dvd plus all the live shows on dvd as well that was released and me....well I can even recite lines from it I'm that obsessed lol.
For anyone who doesn't know what Bottom is all about (?), it's about two men who are mates living together who are Richard Richard (Rik Mayall) and Eddie Hitler (Adrian Edmondson) who are quite simply a superb double act and have appeared in many other things together such as the Dirty Rich & Catflap and the Young Ones and so on over a 25 year period. This dvd is a celebration of all the violent bits in all of their shows for which they are most known for!
Now when I say violent as the dvd is called mindless violence....well it#s silly and slapstick violence to be frank with you and not very believable at all. There's usually no blood and shown and it's usually done in a silly way that is outrageous rather than appearing to be real.
Bottom and The Young Ones are silly comedies with plenty of slapstick moments in them and although the characters smack eachother about from time to time the violence is so far fetched it doesn't even look real...probably why I like it!
So this dvd contains fight scenes and people battering people over the heads with stuff or getting electrocuted and the likes from all of Rik and Adrians shows which include Comic Strip Presents, Mr Jolly Lives Next Door, The Dangerous Boys, Dirty Rich & Catflap, The Young Ones, Bottom (1,2 and 3),Guest House Paradiso and three of the live Bottom stage shows.
I expected a lot from this and I bought it because it is titled 'Bottom Endless Violence' but it isn't just scenes from Bottom but from shows I'd never heard of too. As soon I got into watching this I was left disappointed with it hugely though. There are no extras on this dvd and all you get it the fight scenes between various characters or like I said earlier accidents or people bashing each other over the heads and stuff but without the punch line from the above list of shows.
No new material was added to the dvd at all and it would have been nice if there was a section with Rik and Ade talking about their 25 year old partnership (I'm a huge fan of both of them especially Ade).
I cant believe I'm panning this dvd as I ordered it from Amazon for only £1.27 (used but in great condition)and I simply couldn't wait to get stuck into viewing it but just the silly hammed up slightly amusing scenes are no good without the run up to what got the characters there in the first place!
I can't recommend this dvd at all sadly and this has a runtime of around 2 hours and seriously I've watched this so you don't have to and if you like me your a Bottom fan then buy the dvds of that rather than a dvd of punch lines. If I'd have known this wasn't just Bottom focused I would never have bought it and feel even the title of the dvd is misleading!
This dvd is available from Amazon costing £6.17 including p+p for a new copy and as little as £1.27 including p+p in a great but used condition. Rated 15.
