Bound (DVD) ... Jennifer Tilly, Gina Gershon ... / DVD released 25 August, 2003 at Pathe Distribution / Features of the DVD: PAL, Widescreen / Destined for cult status, this provocative thriller offers a grab bag of genres (gangster movie, comedy, sexy romance, crime caper) and tops it all off with steamy passion between lesbian ex-con Corky (Gina Gershon) and a not-so-ditzy gun moll named Violet (Jennifer Tilly), who meets Corky and immediately tires of her mobster boyfriend (Joe Pantoliano). Desperate to break away from the Mob's influence and live happily ever after, the daring dames hatch a plot to steal $2 million of Mafia money. Their scheme runs into a series of escalating complications, until their very survival depends on split-second timing and criminal ingenuity. Simultaneously violent, funny and suspenseful, Boundis sure to test your tolerance for bloodshed but the film is crafted with such undeniable skill that several critics(including Roger Ebert) placed it on their top-10 lists for 1996. --Jeff Shannon

... Gershon plays Corky, and Jennifer Tilly plays Violet. The two combine with brilliant chemistry - you can feel the attraction oozing out of the screen. Joe Pantoliano is Caesar, and is very good as the nervous, intense bully of a man who treats his Mafia moll girlfriend badly and forces her to get her own back on him. The supporting cast do well, but it is largely the three main characters for the majority of the film. My Opinion Not really my type of film, but I can see some brilliance in the film. The Wachowski Brothers first film Bound (866 words)

Rating:

"Bound" with Gina Gershon was an unsual movie in that marked the directing debut of the Wachowski Brothers who made millions with the Matrix movies and Keanu Reeves. This was as you can call it their "experimental" film before they went to do bigger and better projects like "The Matrix". They brothers had just finished writing the somewhat lame flick "Assassins" and got the helm for "Bound" "Bound" is basically a mob crime film with lesbianism overtones that's it. However, there are some twists in "Bound" which separate from being just another mob movie. You got ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Bound (DVD): BOUND to be good (246 words)

Bound basically is a gangster film-noir about a launderer for the mob called Ceaser (Joe Pantoliano) who has got his hands on $2 Million dollars. His girlfriend Violet (Jennifer Tilly) and her lesbian lover Corky (Gina Gershon) hatch a plan to steal the money. Corky is an ex-con just released from prison who Ceasar hires to fix his plumbing, when Violet drops her ring down the sink she calls on Corky to help, there is an instant spark between them and later on that night they make love in what is about the most explicit lesbian sex we are going to see in a mainstream movie. They even hired an advisor to make sure it looked real. The suspense near the end is kept ...  Read the complete review

100% better than Matrix (114 words)
by - written on 30/09/00
Rating:

This is the Wachowski Brothers other film than the Matrix, and it is much better than that worthless sci-fi rubbish. Here we have an intelligent spin, where a gangster's squeeze plots to double cross him with the help of her lesbian lover. Highly original, and with good acting from Jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon this is a good evening's entertainment. Joe Pantoliano often irritates however, and the ending is a little tacked on, but even so, Bound is a good film. The DVD contains an excellent commentary which is informative and an more interesting than most. Buy the English version and not the American, as the English disc is in Anamorphic widescreen. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Bound (DVD): Disappointing (168 words)
by - written on 10/10/00 (Useful, 29 readings)
Rating:

After seeing quite a lot of style in the Matrix (though very little content) i thought i would try out this earlier title from the Wachowski Brothers. Here we find a film with a film noir feel, and highly stylised. However, that is really the only positive remarks i can make about it. The whole film is more like a chore and the supposed hot sex scenes, are poor, lack any feel chemical reaction between the leads and ends up looking like a very poor porno (without much nudity one might add). The actual disc is bog stanard, with a trailer, commentry and chapter selection. The actual picture quality is average at best and in some of the darker scenes, grain is ...  Read the complete review
