This is not so much a film as an extended documentary but, upon the hearing the word ?documentary?, you might conjure up associations such as: boring, dull, tedious, educational. While this film is certainly educational it could never be described by any of the previous adjectives. This documentary made by Michael Moore is extremely informative, gives a great deal of food for thought but also manages to raise numerous laughs and more than a few smirks. So, what is the subject of this documentary? Moore sets out to discover why the US has the highest number of gun related deaths in the world. Is it due to the nature of the citizens, is it due to mixed ... Read the complete review

It’s a long time since I’ve seen a full-length documentary feature shown at my local multiplex cinema – these tend to be restricted to the art-house cinema in the city. I guess it's not usually exactly what cinema-goers are after. Well, Bowling for Columbine breaks the mould. You CAN get a successful movie / video / DVD out a documentary. He has produced a personal account that centres around three acts of violence located in and around his home town of Flint, Michigan: the Oklahoma Bombing, the Columbine shooting and the death of a six year old girl at the hand of a fellow ... Michael Moore has a way of presenting the facts in such a way that he doesn`t have to force the point home, he lets the audience draw the conclusion he wants them to. The opening segment of Bowling For Columbine is the perfect example of this. Only in America could you find a bank that offers you a free gun when you open an account with them. Standing in the lobby of the bank with his rifle in hand he asks the bank staff the obvious question, "dont you think that its a bit dangerous handing out guns in a bank?" The film then follows a path that highlights the attitudes and absurdities of the Americans view towards guns. The title relates to the school in ... Read the complete review
