Having recently watched Heavenly Creatures, another early Peter Jackson movie (Yes, he who made Lord Of The Rings), I was encouraged to dig out this 90's schlock horror cult b-movie classic that was his second ever film and give it a repeat view. It has certainly not aged a bit and only gets better with repeated viewings. A non-stop gore-fest from start to finish, the movie also has more than it's fair share of all-time classic lines..."Hmmmm, lumpy custard, just like mumsy used to make...." Long before his big blockbuster debut in Lord of the Rings Peter Jackson was working on much more humble projects, in this case a load of stomach churning zombie madness with about as much storyline as the back of a cereal box. Most people, like me, knew nothing about director Peter Jackson before he burst onto the scene with the beautiful, elegant and spectacular Lord Of The Rings trilogy. However, if you go right back to the start of his career, at the late 80s, you’ll find films which could hardly be more different, such as this one; Braindead (also known in America as Dead Alive).
