Having recently watched Heavenly Creatures, another early Peter Jackson movie (Yes, he who made Lord Of The Rings), I was encouraged to dig out this 90's schlock horror cult b-movie classic that was his second ever film and give it a repeat view. It has certainly not aged a bit and only gets better with repeated viewings. Long before his big blockbuster debut in Lord of the Rings Peter Jackson was working on much more humble projects, in this case a load of stomach churning zombie madness with about as much storyline as the back of a cereal box. Most people, like me, knew nothing about director Peter Jackson before he burst onto the scene with the beautiful, elegant and spectacular Lord Of The Rings trilogy. A poisionous 'rat monkey' is stolen from a remote Island the locals are none to happy but the two men after it manage to catch it and take it to a New Zealand zoo. Where the hell did this movie come from?! Braindead is so 'over-the-top' gory, disgusting and sick that I was either laughing my a**e off or sitting in front of the TV in disbelief!. The acting in this film is so bad that it actually makes the movie more of a comedy than a horror! Everything that could possibly be dismembered was and the amount of blood and green gunge is far beyond belief. The movie could have been made any more gory!
