Remember Evil Dead. Banned. Evil Dead 2. Banned. The Texas Chainsaw Masacre. Banned. Braindead. Released uncut in the UK? Yes it is a fact. Braindead, which was released under the title of 'Dead Alive' in the US and severely censored, slipped past the British censors. Why should this goretastic, and not to mention hilariously funny film do so? It seems that censors realised that it was just a good laugh and the extremely over the top gore factor made the viewer immune to violence by the time of the film's fantastic finale.
It all starts off when a 'Rat Monkey' is brougth to New Zealand to be displayed at the local zoo of Lionel, a young man with a 'Norman Bates' relationship with his mother. It is her who is bitten by this beast before crushing the living sh*t out of it, ending its wrath. No. Not in the slightest. The bite causes the mother to slowly zombify (if there is such a word) and thus trigger zombie sex, resulting in zombie baby, finishing with mass zombie death. I won't spoil the end, but black comedy has never been so good. If you are given the opportunity to watch this film, then take it. i guarentee that your won't be disappointed, ifits your sort of thing of course. If you do, however, ignore its low-budget effects, and far from great acting, and just sit back and expose yourself to a landmark in censorship.
